Let's Play Yoshi's Island - Part 23: Riding Through The Cloudy Sky
0I think this might be the first day where I uploaded the two videos forming the middle half of the world. Yes, I said middle half.
At this point, World 5 takes on its second theme, starting with 5-5: Goonie Rides! It's actually a fairly ordinary one; there are, of course, a lot of Goonies around, and it is an athletic stage. You start out in an area with some basic platforming and enemy dodging...and watch out above you! A helicopter section is next, and here, it's best not to fly too low, lest you get hit and knocked into the pit by a Goonie. Most of the point items in the stage are in this room, though, so be on the lookout. Next comes more basic platforming, and finally an area where you must use a switch to climb through a mess of Goonies and Wild Ptooie Plants to reach the goal.
5-6: Welcome To Cloud World is more interesting then 5-5, although it does start out a lot more slow-paced because the entire first half of the stage auto-scrolls...really slowly. It could be worse, though. (Could and will be...the one remaining auto-scrolling stage in the game is one I am definitely not looking forward to.) All kinds of things want a piece of Yoshi in this area: Lakitu (TWO of them!), Baseball Boys, Gusties, Woozy Guys, and Baron Von Zeppelins...they're all out to send Yoshi plummeting. The graphics in this stage, though, are one of my two favorite tilesets in Yoshi's Island, the other being the swamp one.
The second area doesn't auto-scroll, but most of the same hazards are still present, with some new twists thrown into the mix. This room is one where you definitely can't get away without being able to use Yoshi's hovering ability, especially at the end...! This stage is a pretty decent one, although I'll admit that it would be better without the auto-scroll. It definitely has a sky theme and not a snow theme, in any case.
