Doomguy has fought through legions of demons that have sought to stop him, both on the moons of Mars and now on Earth. Both times they have failed, dispatched with ease by his ferocity, determination, stubbornness and copious amounts of heavy ordinance. He faces now the final defenders between him and the one organising the invasion of Earth, the one whose will has seen so many people killed. If he can be defeated the invasion will stop and Earth will be saved, but can we do it? Can Doomguy triumph once more?

Let’s just say that I wouldn’t be betting against Doomguy right now unless I wanted to lose my wager. The only question is how many explosions there’ll be and how much chaingun before it’s over.

What can I say about Doom II that I haven’t already? I love this game. So much about it is awesome and it has so much nostalgia attached to it, but it’s a game that I’d love even if I hadn’t played it in my youth. The action is fast and frantic, the levels well built, the music eerie and catchy all at once and the enemies are so distinctive that they’ve never left my memory since first playing the game. Doom II is the standard that I compare all other Doom games to and it’s my favourite of the lot despite its flaws. It’s not perfect by any means; some of the levels being a bit humdrum and a few new foes that are frustrating, but those are minor complaints that don’t really tarnish this excellent game. This is a game that I can always return to at any time and have a blast playing, an experience I find relaxing and comfortable. While many people think of E1M1 and its music when they think of the Doom franchise, I think of MAP01. If you haven’t played this game before and are a fan of Doom I seriously recommend it, you won’t be disappointed.

So what’s next? I have an idea on what game to replay and it’s another one from a long time ago, from the very beginning of my let’s playing. It’s a game near and dear to my heart, a phrase I realised I’ve used a lot to describe games from my youth that I love. This one is something that’s been on mind a lot of late, a look into a dark future that somehow manages to be funny through sheer ludicrousness despite the gloom. It’ll be fun to return to it, though I make no promises that I’m any better at completing it then last time. You have been warned.

See you next let’s play!
