Let’s Play Commander Keen IOTV #08: Stumbling Towards Success
132Keen may be armed with a high powered laser blaster but he’s going to need a lot more than that to emerge from the mothership unscathed. The robots they have guarding the halls of the vessel are rapid firing, the vorticon elites are numerous and both are deadly. When you take into account the environmental hazards in each level that are health and safety disasters waiting to happen for the crew, you’ve got a dangerous adventure that Keen could never have anticipated when he flew over to stop their scheme.
No matter what Keen must succeed, for the consequences of failure are explosive if the title has any grain of truth in it. Losing lives is bound to happen however, such is the nature of platformers from the time this one was made. It’s a good thing then that you have relative freedom when it comes to the order you tackle each level. If one is giving you difficulty, it might be best that you return to it at a later date when you have more lives, something that is fortunately given to you in great amounts provided you so a small bit of searching on each level for points items. Before you know it you’ll have only the levels you had difficulty with remaining, the final challenging obstacles to saving the world. Who knows, you might have even learned a new mechanic in the game that makes the levels that you thought were hard a lot easier.
