I picked this game up from the Racial Justice bundle from itch.io.

Long Gone Days is an RPG about children raised underground to be a corps of super soldiers that are rented out to the world as a paramilitary group. You play a kid at the top of his class, who on his first assignment realizes that he and his crew might be the baddies, actually, and immediately wants to dip. This game's plot, at least on it's surface, could not be more anime if it tried.

The mechanics are RPG-driven, though I've not seen any level mechanics introduced. Magic is based on individual morale, which is spent to perform special moves in battle. Morale is raised by events and decisions made in the real world (as well as some battle moves, I assume). The combat itself is turn-based, and features a VATS-style system where you can aim at different parts of an enemy to cause different effects (paralysis, more damage, etc). There's also a sniper combat mode that is more of a mini-game than anything else, but interesting to see in a game centered around carbine combat.

The artwork/art direction/visuals in this game are extremely good. The overworld is a beautiful pixel-art style that I've not really seen before, which is refreshing; the characters have well-drawn portraits with different expressions, and the enemy avatars in battle are similarly produced. It's a great game to look at.

I'm really looking forward to see how this game pans out (it's currently 3/4ths completed), but not because of the RPGness of it, but to see the character interactions. All of the characters, mains and NPCs alike, have a lot of character to them (even if they are anime trope-ish). I'm also interested to see how the actual plot plays out, because I've not actually played a game with this sort of setup before.
