Mega Man X Boss Rush - No Dash/No Wall/No Damage/Minimalist (Part II)
3Part II of my X1 Boss Rush. Fun times with Sigma's goons.
Individual Boss Comments:
Vile - This is about 3x shorter than the other fights in this video. It's also the second hardest. It may be 40 seconds, but Vile is hardly a joke without the dash. Much like Spark Mandrill, he picks between his attacks quickly and randomly, which demands quick reaction time from you. He also has two variations on his jumps, which is no end of hassle, and if he corners you? Roll the dice and jump.
Bospider - Words cannot describe my hatred for this boss. It's slow, drawn out, fucking boring, everything I hate in a boss in this series. I lost quite a few attempts based purely on how fast she is. She may have tells, but maybe it's just a lack of sleep, fuck if I can follow them.
Rangda Bangda - To avoid the surge of controversy that won't happen; YES, I do climb walls in this battle. But let's clear a few things up. As I clarified in the previous part, the walls I abstain from using are those on the sides of the arena, and of course, I don't use them for the fight. Since Rangda's walls are not part of the stage all the time, and there's no real way to circumvent the need for them, I think it's forgivable. With that out of the way, this boss being possible without the walls comes from quite a few lucky coincidences. For one, unlike his X5 incarnation, the eyes are two entities with three different modes of attack, instead of being three seperete enemies. This combined with the blue and red's attacks going toward X makes destroying it possible without touching the walls. The 4th level charged shot's huge hitbox helps too. Rangda isn't a very hard boss, but I still enjoy it a lot, even just from a conceptual standpoint.
D-Rex - This is the hardest boss in the challenge, and a lot of that comes from how fast the fucker is and how... interesting his hitboxes are. His speed is slow at the offset, so while he may not seem a threat at the start, when he starts zooming around the room and fucking crashing into shit, it gets a bit hairy. Beside that, the big issue here was D-Rex's energy ball attack. This was the showstopper; try as I might, I could NOT find a way to dodge this without the dash, and without walls. The solution is simple, and it's, what else, to break another fucking rule. I'll spare you my idiotic justifications on why I do this, by using the charged Chameleon Sting, I can keep X invincible long enough to outlast this move. This means two things that make D-Rex harder than he has any right to be. First is that much of the time you usually dedicate to shooting him down is completely gone, which means that careful manipulation of health and patterns is required to keep the number of reps he does on the energy ball low, since obviously Chameleon Sting ammo is limited. Second is that it means that if you don't have the sting charged by the time he starts doing the energy ball, then it's game over.
Velguarder - I did it, folks. I managed to make the stupid little dog a challenge. Like with Kuwanger, having to tango with him on the ground means that you're constantly trying to react to how speedy he is. Part of this comes from his ice attack, which is impossible to dodge without the walls at certain proximities. You can avoid it easily by simply standing next to him, but that's always a dangerous prospect when you're not sure what he's gonna do at any point.
