Mega Man X4 Boss Rush - Minimalist/No Damage (Part I)
Something I began working on as a project to release after History of Sonic Robo Blast 2 Part 3, but since that's taking me a while, obviously, and I already had all the X4 footage recorded, I decided to push it forwards, since X4 is a fucking joke of a game. X5 and X6 will be getting their own boss rushes later, after History of SRB2 Part 3, since those will require a LOT more time. Like I said, X4 is an incredibly easy game, so the amount to talk about is limited, but what the hell.
Individual Boss Comments
Jet Stingray - As plain to see, Stingray does not offer much in the way of challenge. Maybe if I let the pink stingray projectiles hang on the floor he could have been decent, but a disgustingly easy boss like this deserves no such chance.
Slash Beast - He's decently hard, I guess, if you're sleep deprived. And lack the ability to recognize patterns. Jumping over his slashes is super fun, and despite being so easy, he's still a pretty enjoyable battle. Things that don't get shown off in this battle are his counterattack, which is useless, and his desperation attack, which is even useless-er.
Magma Dragoon - Fire bosses in this franchise tend not to fuck around. Dragoon is no exception, he may not be as difficult as Fire Man or Mattrex, but god damn does he put up a close fight. Dragoon's AI follows many pre-determined algorithms, but reacting to the attacks he launches is no small task, due to many factors. One is the insane speed with which he attacks, and the other is his uppercut and fire pillar, which make the walls very unsafe, and any fight in a Mega Man X game where the walls are unsafe is a fight I don't want to partake in. It's a short fight, but Dragoon doesn't make it easy despite this. Also, god damn is it fun as fuck. (But seriously Capcom how can you make this guy a tribute to Akuma but not give him a Raging Demon?)
Cyber Peacock - Well this fight is the complete opposite of the last. That is to say, it's long and unendingly boring, on top of being easy. A typical fight with this guy goes uninterestingly boring until he begins firing the missiles. Then you'll have to actually open your eyes, just to make sure you're performing the same repetitive actions over and over. Did I mention that this fight is fucking boring?
Storm Owl - A bird who actually provides a fun and challenging fight. Storm Owls' attacks aren't hard to dodge or nullify, it's recognizing what he's gonna use and when he uses it that makes him dangerous. It's all too easy for a lack of attention to be the catalyst for a failure through getting hit by one of his feathers, and the homing projectiles are just a whole other world of pain when they get put in uncomfortable positions. He also has a desperation attack, which is... nothing. Thankfully, Owl also leaves himself open a lot, so it's not totally painful, but still pretty enjoyable.
Colonel - I feel like using the term "boss fight" to describe this guy isn't very accurate to the actual encounter itself, no?
Frost Man - I'm sorry, Frost Walrus. You can't really blame me for the confusion. What is there to really say about this guy, honestly? I guess he's got a neat stage. Aaand you can find the EX Tank here. And I'm running out of ways to pad this unfunny bullshit out.
Web Spider - Most fun part of this fight is laughing at how easily his one attack can be circumvented. I can only imagine his face as he watches the web harmlessly fly over X's head before getting another charged shot fired into him. Hilarious. And sad. But more hilarious.
Split Mushroom - Thank christ, we can end off on a hard one. Split Mushroom pulls no punches, and while it's no big task to completely neuter his difficulty by hanging on the walls, making the fight actually fun (and not last a fucking eternity) by keeping off of them makes this one hectic fight. The desync between Mushroom and his clone, combined with how far his attacks can spread, means that you better keep your eyes peeled to see what both fungi are doing at any given point during the fight. The one saving grace is the amount of damage you can put onto him at the beginning before he creates the clones, but god damn is the last 30-45 seconds of the fight insane.
