Mega Man X4 Boss Rush - Minimalist/No Damage (Part II)
Part II of my Mega Man X4 minimalist boss rush
Individual Boss Comments:
Colonel Round 2 - He's back, and he isn't exactly challenging, but god damn is this fight intense. While the presence of walls in the arena sort of nullifies the new tactics Colonel has, not using them makes this a clencher. The lightning isn't much to talk about, but the fast slashes requires some DAMN precise timing to jump over. I wish the ground wave was more effective
Double - This battle doesn't get brought up enough as a sheer joke encounter. It's sooooo embarrassingly easy. Nothing Double does is even close to troublesome, but at least he looks pretty badass.
General - A lack of attacks is normally a death sentence for a boss's difficulty. That rings true here. The General's tendency to hug the corner and launch his hands makes avoiding damage while collecting damage on him a simple matter. It helps that the rest of his shit is just so easy to dodge.
Sigma - Okay, to the surprise of absolutely no one, Sigma is the big one here. As in, he's the only one that required me to not be half-fucking asleep to beat. Sigma's first two forms are small potatoes. The boomerang attack of his second form is an absolute pain in the ass, but fuck if I'm gonna show that off. No, what really puts him on the map is his third form, where all his various attacks are... not very effective. The gun form and red and blue head are all non-issues. The yellow head on the other hand, it's attack is actually rather hard to dodge. Maybe not at first, but with how long this fight can drag on, a lack of attention is it takes to get smacked. So, the slime head. Needless to say, you will be seeing a lot of this bastard. It has two attacks. It will push X toward a wall of spikes, and this is generally the safe period. Easy to dodge, and allows you to collect damage on the head. The other attack is sucking debris while two heads surround you, and then firing the debris, and this is a pain for many reasons. The way with which Sigma sucks in the debris is randomly decided, and while it's usually nothing a charged shot or some rapid firing can't handle, there's also nothing stopping Sigma from collecting the debris in a way that can easily overwhelm X, epecially when only equipped with the X-Buster. This attack also makes attacking the head out of the question, even if I was allowed to take damage in this challenge, the sheer amount of damage the shot out debris does makes going down to try and get hits on the head while it's firing the debris completely unviable. What this boils down to, is a fight with uncertainty all over it, due to the possibility that at any point, the slime head can use the debris attack and completely fuck you over. I don't think it's a particularly super fucking hard fight, even compared to other battle with Sigma, I guess he just stands out a lot in X4 given nothing else comes even close in terms of challenge.
So that's X4. I can confidently say that X5 and X6 are gonna present much, MUCH greater challenges, so look forward to that, and as always, take care.
