Welcome to all the Retro Gamers out there and we are playing through Mega Man X3 again today. Now the title of the video would more appropriately be "Doppler Stage 1 with Bit and Byte Combo Boss" and the other video about Doppler Stage 1 would be the alternate as this is almost certainly what you would run into the first time in this stage but I digress.

This version of the stage is what is found if either Bit or Byte is NOT destroyed with their respective weakness (Frost Shield or Tornade Fang) during the regular Maverick levels before all eight were defeated. Even if Bit or Byte were killed with their weakness and the other was not or was not even defeated than you would find this boss waiting for you in this stage.

Now compared to the other version, this stage is not really all that difficult or changed much. Backgrounds are a bit different and of course the Hyper Chip capsule is not present because I already took the Energy Chip while preparing for a non-Hyper Chip kill of Sigma for the achievement on the PS4 version. I do not recommend going through this stage without the Hyper chip or without killing Bit and Byte properly earlier on unless you specifically want these achievements.

Now why would I say that? This Bit and Byte combo boss is much, much harder than the elephant incinerator boss. Probably 4-5 times harder I would say. I don't really understand why they turn into an Anubis-lookalike when they merge nor where the sword comes from but they are much worse together than separate.

As far as strategy goes, his attacks are hard to dodge, hard to take, and just overall offensive (get that one?) He uses his sword and makes energy waves with it, he can hover, he throws his fist to smack Mega Man X into the walls and ceiling, as well as he can move into a one-two punch using both fists after he grabs X. If there is a way to avoid being grabbed, I don't know what it is. Just take the beating and be liberal with the application of Sub Tanks, hence why the Energy Chip.

Keep up the retaliation through the onslaught and he (they?) will go down permanently. By the way, did anyone notice that he has Byte's face in his throat? That is a bit trippy right there!
