Part 6 of the MMX3 minimalist speed run.
This is a segmented speed run through Mega Man X3, in it's entirety, under the following restrictions; no weapons, no upgrades, no damage sustained under any circumstance, and no use of Zero (outside of a forced section in the Intro Stage segment.)

Volt Catfish. What can we say about this guy? He has an idiotic design and an even more idiotic fight, and his stage is absolutely genius. This is exactly what all stages in X3 should've aspired to be; frantic, busy, and constantly keeping you involved, rather than being a hallway simulator. The stage's main gimmick, besides being another tribute to this game's unexplainable love for elevators, is the lasers. These start as red trip lasers, and if X touches them, they will fire off and hit him. With swift enough movement, X can dash through them, but it has to be pretty precise. Too early or too late and the laser will clip X. They'll come back to haunt us in future segments, but here, they're pretty tame. In fact, most of the first area is not that bad. Fun, for sure, but not the challenge we're quite gunning for. That comes in the form of the second area. This is crowded to an insane degree, and you have no leeway to plan your jumps through the cumbersome obstacles. I lost so many attempts simple getting hit by the sparks because once you blow up the first ceiling (or floor, depending on where they're placed) clinging enemy, you have to jump. Speaking of those guys, they're absolute bastards. One charge shot will only destroy their cannons, but this causes them to put up a shield that blocks shots and can harm X. This means that you must destroy them quickly, which is hard when you consider how difficult their placement makes doing this. Once you get past the ones directly after the drop, the rest of them can be gunned through, although the jump through the laser is pretty annoying. You have to delay your jump, otherwise the laser will catch you. And all of this is in a stage that's less than 2 minutes long. Isn't that great? What's not great is the boss, Volt Catfish. Trailing Seahorse as the hardest in the game, he joins him in having a first phase of serviceable difficulty that is followed by an incredibly difficult second phase, only with three times the amount of uncertainty in the phase. His one attack in this phase is, of course, a charging attack, with 7 seconds of preempt. Seriously? Anyway, this attack would be nothing special if not for the fucking sparks that he lobs out of his fat fucking body. These things fly completely randomly, which means that at any point, they can intercept you while you're dodging him, and clip you. Optimal firing on him during his first phase will force you through three to four reps of his second phase at most, and all of these are complete and total coin flips on whether or not Catfish will be friendly, or completely evil.
Track used was Aphex Twin - Heliosphan.
