Mega Man Zero 2: No Damage (Active Form) Final Stage; Elpizo
Mega Man Zero 2 (GBA), no damage taken against Elpizo/Boss Rush (Final Stage/Final Boss) while achieving an S-Rank (100 points); Active Form only. This video's part of a series; a playthrough dedicated to using only the Active Form for more stylish and fresh gameplay. This is a NG+ file.
Elpizo/Boss Rush (Final Stage) Overview:
This didn't outright kill me like Zero 1's final stage did, but I won't lie and say Elpizo and his crew didn't give me a run for my money either. There was actually a point where I felt like I might not have been able to do it under the condition I set for myself (no charged Z-Saber abuse, since every boss here can be fought well without it), and with Active Form not being a form suited for boss battles, that added on more to the pressure. I'm sure if this were a Normal/Rise Form playthrough, I'd tear through this final stage. But this self-imposed challenge showed me just how outclassed Active really is against the bosses in comparison to most other forms (when you aren't abusing charges). But I persevered. What kept me going was this simple thought: "I beat X6, no damage AND without Guard Shell... I can do this".
Before I discuss Elpizo (who isn't really all that bad), let's talk about the Anchus Brothers. Since Kuwagust isn't alone this time, you've got Herculious here to make things complicated. But the general strategy here is to rely on the Shield Boomerang jumping loop tech for the most damage, as well as use it to make Herculious's attack a non-issue. A full cycle will result in an entire bar of HP gone (because they've got 3... but it's shared), however... this is quite the challenge to pull off consistently. You need to throw the boomerang JUST as Kuwagust begins his attack. Do it too early and you won't get that little pull fast enough for the boomerang to fly by you (and instead, it'll just return). Do it too late and you'll get grabbed by Kuwagust without a chance to move. I've only perfected this due to the sheer amount of times I had to retry this stage...
Elpizo: He's not all that bad of a final boss, but he leaves a lot to be desired. Even with Active Form, he goes down easy with chain rod combos. He's also an RNG-reliant boss, but this is yet another case of it done right. Everything he does has the proper start-up time for you to react to whatever he decides to dish out, so the first phase is just a straightforward showdown. His special attack, however, needs some explanation. You see, he flings his sword out based on your current position. If you're WAAAAAAY on the other side, that sword's gonna follow you. If you're up in his face, you'll either get plucked by the sword itself, or it'll be too close to him to jump over. As long as you don't run into the sword beam and the flying debris, this attack isn't difficult to avoid. Just keep in mind where you are.
Final Form Elpizo... lol. Not much to say here. I was just being cautious because I really didn't want to start over, and I saw how amazingly executed this whole take was (I entered Ultra Instinct for real and lost it at that very moment... lol), so I didn't want to drop the ball. He's self-explanatory.
