Mercury-Atlas 6 (or Friendship 7) was the first American orbital spaceflight, and 3rd manned spaceflight ever, alunched at February 20 1962 from LC-14, Cape Canaveral, on top of an Atlas LV-3B rocket. Astronaut for that mission was John Glenn. Mission schedule predicted staying in space for 7 orbits, but it was aborted earlier and after 3 orbits John Glenn safely landed in the Atlantic Ocean.
