Apollo 15 was the first of the Apollo "J" missions capable of a longer stay time on the Moon and greater surface mobility, thanks to the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV). It launched at July 26 1971 from Kennedy LC-39A launch site at Kennedy Space Center. Astronauts for that mission were David R. Scott, Alfred M. Worden and James B. Irwin. Irwin and Scott descented on the surface of the Moon in the Falcon Lunar Excursion Module. They conducted 4 surface EVAs, with total EVA time of over 19 hours and travelled the distance of 27.9km in the LRV. The crew returned to Earth at July 30, landing in the North Paciffic Ocean.
