Apollo 11, by many considered the greatest achievement of humanity, was the first crewed landing on the surface of another celestial body - Earth's Moon. Mission took of at July 16 1969 from the Kennedy LC-39A launch site at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, lifted into the air and beyond by the legendary Saturn V rocket. Commander was Neil Armstrong, with Micheal Collins as the Command Module pilot and Buzz Aldrin as the Lunar Module pilot. After Lunar Orbit Insertion Collins stayed in the Command/Supply Module (CSM), The Columbia, while Aldrin and Armstrong landed on the Moon in the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM), The Eagle, at July 20 1969, exactly at 20:18:04 UTC. The commander Neil Armstrong was the first human being on the Moon, he set his foot on the surface at 02:56:15 July 21, declaring historic words "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind". 19 minutes after that Aldrin set his foot on the surface too. Astronauts made various experiments, collected surface samples and planted the American flag. Over 21 hours after landing the LEM Ascent
Stage with Armstrong and Aldrin aboard separated from the LEM
descent stage and lifted off. After reaching lunar orbit, they
rendezvoused with the CSM and re-docked. Aldrin and Armstrong
moved to the Command Module, separated the LEM Ascent Stage and performed Trans-Earth Injection, followed by successful re-entry and splash down in The North Pacific Ocean at July 24.
