Apollo 8 was the first spaceflight, that took man near the Moon and to its orbit. The crew of this mission, astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders were the first people to ever see far side of the Moon. The mission took off at December 21 1968 from LC-39A launch pad at Kennedy Space Center and entered Lunar orbit 3 days later, at Christmast Eve, December 24 1968. Spaceship stayed there for 20 hours, and at December 25 engine were iginited and spacecraft left to Earth, which was followed by splashdown in the North Pacific Ocean and December 27.
