Metal Slug Super Vehicle-001 - PlayStation (PS1) - Intro & Arcade Playthrough 1CC on MVS [4K]
Full gameplay longplay, playthrough walkthrough, guide and trueplay, of the PS1 port of the NEOGEO arcade game Metal Slug: Super Vehicle-001. This is a one credit clear as Marco with 80 P.O.W rescued there's 104 in total, but some are believed to be random, others require stringing out fights to wait for them to drop.
Nazca were a team formed by ex-Irem staff, who had previously worked on games such as In the Hunt, Gun Force II and Undercover Cops amongst others. What they created is one of the greatest if not the greatest Run & Gun game every made that was a perfect mix of classic Contra gameplay with modern gameplay and a visual style that still looks super today, 20+ years after it first released on NEOGEO.
While the later Metal Slug games went off the deep end adding to much silliness with wacky enemies like giant crabs and various alien enemies on top of having terrible gameplay balancing. The original is a perfect game both in length and design and stuck firmly to a military look with all the enemy sprites.
It's far to say each game was weaker than the last Metal Slug 3 being the last game done by SNK and the last to have any quality to it. After which the series became almost shovelware with Metal Slug 4,5. While 6,7 and XX turned it around a little, they are all best avoided compared to the original Metal Slug 2,X & 3.
The PS1 version really is an excellent port seeing as the system was never meant to do 2D the port of X for the system is even more so. The fact Ukiyotei were able to port Nazca's NEOGEO marvel to the system while keeping the gameplay intact was quite a feat. All the stages and background are here as are the bosses and troops. What did get cut was a large amount of animation, in fact many sprites are cut back to key frames only, likely only 1/4 of the arcade animation is here. The music has take a quality hit and finally the game now has short breaks in levels for mid stage loading, something arcade fans won't like. This version also seems to have removed a lot of the arcade slow down as well. It appears based on the NEOGEO CD port with the extra and exclusive Another Story mode. While not quite as good as the NEOGEO CD or SEGA Saturn versions, it remains a solid port.
