MiSTer FPGA - Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge (ドラキュラ伝説II) [1cc] / Game Boy Color
My first Castlevania on Game Boy, and it's a pretty good one! Structure is slightly different from the NES classics, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Instead of hiding items in walls, they are in corners, and the difficulty isn't nearly as high as the other home console versions from around this time. This was my 3rd try at the game and I only died once during this run. Dracula takes a bit of trial and error to learn, but they give you infinite continues so once you make it to him that first time, its pretty easy to pick up on his patterns, and where to position yourself to avoid his attacks.
Give this one a try if you haven't yet. The great music, pixel art and responsive gameplay, make this an essential game for the Game Boy. While it was originally released on Game Boy, it later had a Game Boy Color version via the Konami GB Collection Vol. 4 compilation. I am playing that version in this video, with a romhack that turns that compilation into just an auto-booting Castlevania II color game, and includes a speed fix to address the slow moving speed of the original. Highly recommend giving this version a go: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2474/
This is my last video for Halloween 2020. It's been a fun run for the past 15 days, learning a bunch of new games and making these videos. I'll definitely have some more for next year since there are many I didn't get to on my lists. Unfortunately this video has a slight audio de-sync, so sounds are a tiny bit delayed. I may just revisit this one soon and go for the no-death clear, since I made it so close with this run, and I can address the slight audio de-sync in that updated video as well. Happy Halloween, and be safe!
