MiSTer FPGA - Fushigi no Yume no Alice [2021 Eng. Translation - 1cc] / PC Engine (Turbografx-16)
31 years since release, this game is finally translated: https://www.romhacking.net/translations/6353/ thanks to the efforts of Dave Shadoff, Diogo Ribeiro, filler & MooZ. Because the game has such large borders by default, I used 5x integer scaling in this video, which results in just a couple rows cut from the top and bottom of the screen compared to what I see on a CRT with normal overscan. I feel the trade-off is worth it here to have such a larger image compared to standard 4x integer.
This video is my first time beating the game. I was finally able to adapt to the endboss' pattern on this run after some trial and error. Stocking up on a bunch of extra lives definitely helps also. ^-^

The game can be very tough when first starting out, and almost feel unfair at parts until you learn the systems properly. To use magic, pause the game and press button I to select a spell. The red magic that you start off with is the most useful, as it lets you find hidden items. Learn about the magic & items here: https://bit.ly/30MJUmR
A few tips to help along your journey if you decide to try this one:
-To do a high jump off enemies when you bounce off of them, you must press the jump button slightly after you hit them. Doing it too early or exactly on impact, will result in a small bounce. Learning to do this correctly is key to making the game easier.
-When on ladders it can be confusing which way Alice fires her attack. The key is to look which leg she has up on the ladder, and she will fire in that direction.
-Sometimes it seems like you are randomly getting hit when trying to bounce off of enemies. This can be especially frustrating in boss fights. To prevent this, make sure you are landing on top of them during the downward arc of your jump. Trying to hit them at the top of your jump or on the way up, will almost always result in damage.
Still having issues progressing? There are a bunch of codes for this game you can try here, including a stage select if you want to practice tricky areas: https://bit.ly/3cAZZyo (I didn't use any of these while practicing the game, but considered including the sound test code at the end to showcase the uninterrupted music due to the constant red magic use during play.)

MiSTer's PC Engine core was transformed into the most accurate way to play this console besides original hardware, largely in part thanks to efforts by srg320. He also created our SNES and Sega CD cores, and is now currently working on a Sega Saturn core for MiSTer.
