Monster Hunter Sandy Plains Mashup
From the second I first purchased “Monster Hunter Rise”, I knew that I was going to enjoy the Sandy Plains the second I could go there because it was one of my favorite areas from “Monster Hunter Tri”/MHGU on account of it being the source of so many great memories- farming Barroths in Low-Rank to get my first ever full set of armor, feeling so accomplished when I discovered that you could use the fishing rod to pull the Niblesnarf out of the ground, and fighting my first Diablos, to name a few. However, even though I had high expectations for the Sandy Plains in “Rise”, the place still managed to blow me away- partially because of how well it implemented the wirebug while also maintaining the look and feel that the original version had, but mostly because of the revamped battle them.
In “Monster Hunter Tri” and MH3U, the theme that they used for the Sandy Plains was great because it was energetic, fast-paced, and did a great job of capturing the feel of fighting the more movement-oriented monsters that live there, such as the Barroth and Diablos. But as good a theme as the original version was, the remastered version used in “Rise” blows it out of the water because it captures that same energy and feel and then boosts them both up to 11 thanks to those epic horns and that chorus. Seriously, even when I’m fighting something completely unthreatening there in “Rise”, such as the Pukei-Pukei or the Kulu-Ya-Ku, as soon as that song starts playing, it feels like I’m going up against something along the lines of an Elder Dragon.
