Let’s Play Okamiden - Episode 3: The Secret Life of Kuni
As per “Okami” tradition, we need to go through the Cave of Nagi for a spot of training in order to learn some core gameplay mechanics- specifically, how to utilize partners in the field and battle. For you see, unlike in the first game, where partners were more or less just glorified brush techniques that were used for only single dungeons, this time, partners will prove to be invaluable in that they can reach areas and complete puzzles that we wouldn’t be able to do on our own, as well as help us deal extra damage in battle. Heck, partners are so important gameplay-wise that the game introduces an entirely new brush skill that allows us to control our current partner when they’re not riding Chibi, which we will be using very, very frequently.
Though speaking of partners, remember in last episode’s description when I mentioned that Kuni was essentially a child version of Susano? Well, apparently I was wrong, because as we learn in this episode, in addition to following the ways of the warrior, Kuni’s a potter by trade and that all of his supplies were stolen by demons. I swear, between me accidentally making Chowchilla Charlie disappear in my “Grim Fandango” playthrough, that seahorse suddenly speaking French despite me setting the audio to English in my “Ty the Tasmanian Tiger” playthrough, that time in my “Banjo-Kazooie” playthrough when I flew through that snowman, died, and had to recollect about half of the notes, and now this, I can’t help but feel like I’m a glitch magnet of sorts.
