More Unpaid Time Coming Up | Sunday Rant | Trucking Answers
The new 2020 Hours of Service were recently announced. They will undoubtedly increase unpaid time as the split sleeper now doesn't count against the 14 hour clock. Both parts of the split sleeper stop the clock. This will encourage companies to "allow" drivers to log sleeper while loading or unloading to increase driving time. Drivers always think that the way to increase your pay is to increase the time worked. The way to increase pay is to increase the amount paid for the time already worked. Working harder just makes you tired. Get paid more for the work you do and refuse to work for free. While we can talk about the other changes to the hours of service, the new split sleeper rule will have drivers working more for no more pay.
