This is a playthrough of single player mode using Smoke in the Genesis/Mega Drive version of Mortal Kombat II. Read on below for more information...

Smoke is a hidden CPU-only character in the game, which makes him a non-selectable/unplayable character.

===== ABOUT MK2 SMOKE =====

As you know, Smoke has been an unplayable/non-selectable hidden character in all official versions of MKII. Even if you used external methods (such as Action Replay, Game Genie, etc.) to select him and the player tried controlling him, it would cause the game to crash, making it somewhat pointless unless you did it for curiosity or/and experimental purposes. Literally anything you did with him caused the game to crash, and this applies especially to the Arcade and SNES versions.

===== ABOUT GENESIS MK2 SMOKE =====

The Genesis version of Smoke however, is a bit different because under human control, as he is far more "lenient-from-crashing" than the Arcade and SNES versions of him.

Another thing that helps is the fact that Smoke is a semi-clone-hybrid of the regular male ninja characters, meaning that he has the structure of a regular character, which means that you won't get the sprite/animation problems you would have with Kintaro and Shao Kahn. This means that you can actually *almost* play him completely like a regular character without the game crashing, making it possible to actually beat the game with him in single-player mode, as long as you're careful and avoid doing the few things which can crash the game! Here is more detailed information on Smoke:

===== ADDITIONAL INFORMATION =====

---- Despite being an unplayable character, he actually has 3 "special moves" available when controlled by a human player, as follows:

...... A glitched "projectile" move that uses Sub-Zero's sprite poses. Creates multiple glitched images of himself. If it doesn't hit the opponent, it crashes the game. If it hits the opponent unblocked, it sends the opponent flying over Smoke's head. It seems that has the same effect on the opponent as when they get hit by Reptile's Force Ball special move. Command to do this is Forward, Down, Back or Half-Circle-Back. No button press required. Example of this hitting the opponent starts around 01:10. Example of the crashing version is at 13:16.

...... A glitched "special move" where he disappears and shows Scorpion's Harpoon in an animated but static state. He needs the opponent to hit him out of this for the player to regain control of Smoke. The move does not affect nor harm the opponent. Command to do this is Back, Down, Back or Reverse Dragon Punch motion. No button required. Example of this at 13:22.

...... A "fake harpoon" special move where he goes through Scorpion's Harpoon animations, but there is no actual harpoon projectile. Does not affect nor hurt the opponent. Command to do this is LP + BLOCK or LP + HK or LP + LK. Example of this at 00:57 in the video.

---- When a human player is controlling Smoke, he does not emit smoke unlike the CPU-controlled Smoke.

---- The CPU Smoke has Scorpion's Harpoon special move. The human-controlled Smoke cannot do this.

---- The CPU Smoke has a special move where he rushes forward REALLY fast and throws the opponent. The human-controlled Smoke cannot do this.

---- If Smoke is in a match, the text "Now You Must Return To The Outworld" will appear after he wins or gets defeated.

---- He can appear perfectly on the character select screen, and he even has the proper pose when you confirm him.

---- When playing as him as a registered character, he is locked to the Blue Portal stage in fights. Even Kintaro and Shao Kahn (who are both usually locked in the Kahn's Arena stage) are forced to appear on the Blue Portal if Smoke is present.

---- His icon on the "battle plan" screen is the [?] icon.

---- If you manage to beat the game with him, the game will crash because he does not have an ending programmed in.

---- He receives general lower damage than the regular characters. This is normal as it is the same case as CPU Smoke.

---- As a specialist character (hidden), there is no "Finish Him/Her" feature when he is present.

---- He has Reptile's neutral stance and walking forward animations, and he has Sub-Zero's walking backwards animations. This means that he is the only character in the game to have two different walking animations.
