Until recently juvenile prisoners in Helmand province in Afghanistan were housed in mud cells with no facilities. Today that has all changed.

They are now based in a brand new Juvenile Detention Centre which has just been officially handed over to the Afghans.

The new centre, built and managed by the Provincial Reconstruction Team, comes complete with cells, vocational rooms and classrooms to meet international standards.

A major part of tackling the insurgency has to come from re-educating the young and the emphasis of the new centre is rehabilitation. Forces News cameras were given exclusive access.
