NEW Roguelike Alert! Atomic Picnic Brings the Chaos and I'm Hooked!
0Atomic Picnic is a thrilling co-op roguelike shooter currently in development, blending Eastern and Western design influences for a unique visual style. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the game has you venturing into dangerous wastelands to scavenge precious resources. These expeditions, called Picnics, can be tackled solo or with a team, each time with new objectives—though the real thrill is always shooting robots in the face.
Each playthrough features one of several distinct characters, each with their own abilities to upgrade. My personal favorite so far is Ash. In addition to character upgrades, you can equip Curios—special items that add unique effects and allow for different builds, adding to the game's depth.
The combat feels incredibly responsive, with fluid movement and satisfying action. The arenas are full of obstacles, crystals to break, and gems to collect. There’s always a sense of urgency as you fight off swarms of robotic enemies. You’ll often find yourself kiting foes around the arena in a style reminiscent of Risk of Rain 2, using your character’s abilities at the right moments to survive. Your abilities are on cooldown timers, so timing and strategy are key to staying alive.
As you complete objectives and return to base, you can invest in the game's meta-progression systems, unlocking new abilities and upgrades to become even stronger for the next Picnic.
The Early Access version includes three unique arenas—Twilight Dam, City of Sand, and Train Plateau—along with four playable characters and a solid range of Curios to experiment with. There’s plenty to dive into already, but with room for growth, this is just the beginning.
