Nuts & Milk Famicom / NES CRT TV Playthrough asmr
1Released 7/28/1984, Nuts & Milk is not so much a port of the MSX game to the Famicom as it is a reworking. The arcade-style gameplay resembles both Donkey Kong Jr. and Lode Runner. This game never came to the NES (or made it to a VS. Arcade system as I think it was originally intended for) and the reason is 100% because of the title. The gameplay itself is quite good.
The game tries to deny its obvious sexual connotations by using a theme of food: fruit, yogurt, nuts, etc. However, the developers are clearly playing with expectations as is evident in the title. The antagonist Nuts is named first and the protagonist Milk second. Yogurt is the name of the female character and girlfriend of Milk, yet she didn't make the title! If you want a video game to fail in the U.S., put a sexual metaphor in the title. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when Nintendo discussed with Hudson Soft about making it a Vs. Arcade game, for which it clearly was designed. Hudson Soft would use thier port of Raid on Bungeling Bay as a basis for the Vs. Arcade version, so we know this was in their wheelhouse.
I am considering a playthrough to be completion of all 50 levels. Since this game allows one to use the Select button to scroll through levels, it marks the beginning of the "infinite continues" theme characteristic of the Famicom / NES library. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES Advantage controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
