Origin Online (2005, Silkroad Online Private Server, PC Mmo Gameplay 2020)
Origin Online is a private server of the mmo game, Silkroad Online. Originally released in 2005 to the Korean gamer and then later to the international gamer. The game was developed by Joymax, and Published by Yahoo! Korea (Korean servers) and Joymax (international servers).
First let me tell you something about my experience with Joymax's version. It took about 10 minutes to download the installer, about 10 minutes to install and update and THEN I ran the game to be put into a waiting list to enter the game that was timed at around 2 hours wait time unless I wanted to PAY to enter the game's server and skip the queue.
LMFAO! at that point I uninstalled the game and went to Origin Online.. nice going Joymax, great way to rip gamers off by putting them into a 2 hour queue or force them to spend real money to get in quicker. Seriously, anyone reading this should go check it out themselves. I have NEVER in all the years I have been playing mmos (since 1996) seen an mmo do this.
Here's the cost.. lowest you can buy is $5 for 50 coins of their currency. It costs you 13 coins to skip the server wait so effectively $5 will get you 3 logins, this is also counted for if you DC. I'm just in shock at how this company gets away with this, effectively they could crash the servers on purpose to make money, unbelievable.
RANT OVER! so..
Origin Online is basically the same game as Silkroad Online but with a different name for the private server AND no queue or charge to enter the game, much better for trying the game out yourself and seeing if you like it or not.
So, I played a European character and started in Constantinople but I have since read and seen that the other country you start in is a million times better visually than Europe, wish I had played that side now but never mind.
Okay, visually the game is pretty nice considering it was released back in 2005, and nice open-fielded areas to explore. The menu and skill system I found a little confusing at first but got used to it after looking about a little. The music was pretty nice, monster designs looked nice and seemed to be animated very well.
My worry about this game is it looks like it would be a pain to learn alchemy and crafting if the menus and skill system is anything to go by, though I didn't look really into that on this tryout so I could be entirely wrong and the crafting could be as easy as Runescape.
It seems the game is open PvP but tied to which side you choose, so kinda like Region vs Region maybe. I tend to not play PvP mmos, purely cos I suck at them but this one seemed like it could be fun to try it out.
One issue I had with this game also is that the movement of your character is purely point and click, there is no S, W, A, D movement, it feels really odd after playing so many other mmos that used those keys.
This private server didn't seem dead as there were people running about as I filmed and even after I stopped recording this video, but how busy? I really couldn't say.
Anyway, if your interested in trying this mmo out then you can find it here where you won't be put in a queue for two odd hours unless you PAY to enter the game.. https://playorigin.com/
