With the help of my friend James, I created a working miniature Outrun themed MAME arcade racing cabinet, out of a Thumbs Up 'Retro Racer' toy mini cabinet. Here's a video explaining how I got the idea and how I went about doing it.

The Retro Racer comes with 30 or so racing games on hardware that looks and sounds about the equivalent of something you'd find on the NES or Sega Master System (it specifically describes the games as being '8-Bit'). Most of them are top down racers, with a couple of 3D ones chucked in there for good measure. Don't go expecting any 8 bit masterpieces on the level of Outrun on the Sega Master System on the proprietary hardware though - the games it comes preloaded are pretty much absolute trash. One of the 3D racers doesn't have any bends in the track and plays the same bit of irritating chiptune music on something like a 5 second loop. It will drive you bananas!

Let's fix that and put something in there capable of playing some genuine arcade classics using MAME, that actually looks like a shrinky-dinked version of a stand-up Outrun cabinet. And, hey, why not a bigger screen area and bezel and a proper light up marquee whilst we're at it?
