R-Type Final 2 - Edited DLC homage stage highlights
8I downloaded this ages back and only got around to trying it out for the first time a few days ago. despite some earlier grumblings, I've actually been having a pretty fun time with R-Type Final 2.
Really enjoyed the DLC homage courses based on stage 1 from R-Type Delta and the huge battleship stage from the original R-Type, so thought I'd upload some video highlights from some of the DLC stages.
The very first level I play in this the "Flame-Engulfed Arms Factory" (from R-Type III Stage 4: Fire Cask Factory) was on the game's normal mode. I then go into a truncated section of "Inside Of Ruins" (from R-Type Leo Stage 5: Inside Of Ruins) on practice, which was the stage with the boss that was giving me such a headache on the next difficulty up
Next up it's "Crazed Craft" (R-Type Delta Stage 1: Lethal Weapon) then "Warship Out Of Hell" (R-Type Stage 3: Gitantic Warship)
Finally, I just quickly show how the first stage boss changes if you play the game on the (default) hardest setting R-Typer. On the lesser difficulties it's covered in ice, but on the harder ones it's fully defrosted to reveal itself as classic R-Type boss Dobkeratops, complete with a different attack pattern.
I absolutely loved R-Type back in the day, I was able to beat the Sega Master System version back then. If you're a big R-Type fan, I'd highly recommend checking an e-book you can download for free called 'It's Behind You - The Making of a Computer Game' by Bob Pape. He's the guy that managed to port the original game to the ZX Spectrum back in the 80's and it's widely regarded as one of the greatest arcade ports to the humble 8-bit system ever (I had a demo of the 1st level which came with either Your Sinclair or Sinclair User. It really was an incredible conversion). It's a fascinating read, light on coding jargon, heavy on the experience of being a home computer coder back then.
