Panzer Dragoon Remake - Stadia - Intro, Hard longplay plus true final boss & Episode 0 [4K60]
Full gameplay longplay / playthrough / walkthrough / trueplay of the remake of Panzer Dragoon released on Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is the later 1.3 patched version that includes additional content such as the Episode 0 score stage and a bonus art gallery that can be unlocked once you cleared the game. As of the time of writing this title is available via Google Stadia for Pro account users. Played with a stadia control as the mouse and keyboard support isn't great. So the real question is how does this remake compare to the original game and well the answer is not good. As Riven mentioned in his stream the other week, he was not a fan of this remake. Sadly as with a number of recent SEGA remakes it seems the developers didn't have the skill or budget to create the game needed to match the quality of the original game.
As a result the game has issues in all areas, while the developers have patched the game to improve the controls and frame rate. There are a number of core issues and missing content that requires far more work to be added. Which raises questions over the competence of many reviews, who failed to notice the missing content. It's quite possible this game was released in an unfinished state, due to how little fanfare it got after being delay in 2019. Episode 6 is missing the whole chase sections down the narrow streets and both the final bosses our missing attacks and attack patterns. The final Dark Dragon battle is supposed to have a shield which turns on and off during the battle blocking your attacks. It's also not firing its missiles shots at you. While the large dragon is supposed to fly around you limiting your movements in it's first attack pattern.
Likely due to the lost of the original source code, enemy formations are all different as are the flight patterns on many of the stages. It's largely just a best guess of the original. it's a OK attempt and if you've never played the game before you may well enjoy it, but core series fans will be left deeply disappointed. The difficulty is far easier than the original Japanese Saturn version and a cake walk compared to the harder western Saturn version. As with the western Saturn version, this game only has the second form of the final boss on hard.
The new art direction fails to understand the design of some of the previous levels, while also getting the colours and time of day settings wrong on others. The graphics also don't look that good and it looks like a title from the late 2000 era. The less said about the new CGI intro the better, the older ones scaled up look better.
The new music is largely rather poor despite being supposed composed by Saori Kobayashia who did some of the soundtrack for Panzer Dragoon Azel /Saga. In truth the music sounds rather unfinished and the audio volumes have been incorrectly set in game makes them too high and causing some distortion. For whatever reason they are overly synthesized and largely sound vastly inferior to Yoshitaka Azuma original score, only a few tracks such as the new episode 3 boss music, sound finished and actually make a nice alternative to the original score.
We can only hope that the developers improve the game further for the Steam version. As it stands this is more a below average remaster rather than a remake as it includes no real new content, stages, bosses etc.. The fact the original intro wasn't turned into a new opening stage is a missed opportunity as is the lack of the super attack.
