Mario wakes up at Goomba Village, and he finds a family of Goombas, who have helped Mario out after his defeat against Bowser. Mario then goes to borrow Goompa's Hammer, he ends up outside of the village, and they go to find the Hammer, but they have an encounter with Jr. Troopa, who claims the area as his playground, and will attack anyone that enters.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

After losing to Bowser, you wake up at Goomba Village, leave the Toad House and talk to the local Goombas, they were the ones that helped Mario. What you have to do is enter the house and talk to Goompa, the Goomba grandfather, he is fixing the veranda, then go outside, and Goombario will tell you that his dad has finished fixing the gate.
When you get to the gate, Kammy Koopa, Bowser's right-hand assistant, who only appears in the first two Paper Mario games, and disappears completely in the more recent Paper Mario games, creates a yellow block which destroys the gate, preventing Mario from leaving Goomba Village.
Your next task is to find Goompa, only to find that the veranda is gone, what you have to do is go to the west outside of the village and check the bushes to find the Hammer, you can use that to hit blocks and trees, one of them has a Peach Doll which Goombaria lost. When you leave the area, Goompa will get beaten up by Jr. Troopa, who claims this area as his playground, and we have no other choice than to fight him.
Jr. Troopa is not that difficult, just use Jump or Hammer to attack him, he only has 5 HP, and on his last HP, he uses a more powerful attack that deals 2 damage, and after beating him, you earn Star Points, and if you collect 100, you gain a Level Up, I am sure anyone that has played Paper Mario back in the day would already know about this, and I did record a playthrough on Paper Mario back in 2010 when you could only upload videos that were 10 minutes long, so it is good to go back to that game again, specially now on Nintendo Switch Online.
When you continue further, Goompa will tell you that there are bad Goombas along the way, they have 2 HP, so they shouldn't be too difficult, but there are different types of Goombas, there is the Paragoomba, they are in the air, and you cannot reach them with your Hammer, but if you jump on them, they lose their wings and become regular Goombas, and the Spiky Goomba has a spike on its head, and you will take damage if you jump on them, so use your Hammer to attack them. You can pick up a Star Piece along the way, there are 160 of them in this game, and you do get some good rewards, which I will go over when I get to that point in the game, and for items, you can pick up a Mushroom, which heals 5 HP, a Fire Flower, which deals 3 damage to all enemies. There is also a Heart Block, which will fully restore Mario's HP and FP, you can find those throughout the game.
Return to Goomba Village with Goompa, and if you picked up the Peach Doll, you can give it to Goombaria for a Star Piece, and after a bit of dialogue, Goompa gives you the Power Jump badge, this is the first badge in the game, and it does require BP, which stands for Badge Points, which you can upgrade when you level up, but you can only have a maximum of 30 BP in this game. Power Jump is much stronger than a normal jump, it deals 3 damage, and it uses 2 FP, that stands for Flower Points. After a bit of dialogue, Goombario will become Mario's new party member, and I do like how Goombario's name is a play on Mario's name, where his name is a combination of Goomba and Mario. Goombario's field skill is to provide information on areas and NPCs, and in battle, Goombario has Headbonk, which is the same as Mario's Jump, and he has Tattle, which provides information on the enemy you are fighting against, and it will display the enemy's health bar and it gives information on the enemy's HP, Attack, and Defense stats, and what they are weak to, it is a helpful skill when you want to find out about certain enemies, and unlike Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, you don't keep a log of which enemies you have used Tattle against. If you Hammer the tree, you can get a Goomnut, they restore 3 FP, I recommend picking up a few of them so you have a way to restore FP early on.
