With his new ally Goombario, Mario goes on his adventure through Goomba Road, where a bunch of bad Goombas are located. They come across two Goombas that are known as the Goomba Brothers, a Red Goomba and a Blue Goomba, and they serve the Goomba King, the first boss fight in the game.

After using the Hammer to destroy the yellow block left by Kammy Koopa, the next place is Goomba Road, and this is where we can test out Goombario in battle, he has Headbonk, which is the same as Mario's Jump, and Tattle, where he gives you information about the enemy you are fighting against. Interacting with the notice board in the first area triggers a battle with a Goomba, and do note that your partner will be injured if they get hit, for example, if Goombario uses Headbonk on a Spiked Goomba, he will be unable to attack for a few turns. The next area has Spiked Goombas, and there is a red block, those give you badges, the one you get is Close Call, if Mario is in Danger, which is when his HP is at 5 or below, enemies sometimes fail to attack, I have heard this badge is good for 5 HP runs, and near it is a notice board which gives you a Mushroom, and at the end of that area is a Heart Block.
When you enter the next area, you come across two Goombas, a Red Goomba and a Blue Goomba, they are known as the Goomba Brothers, and they serve the Goomba King, and you fight against them. Red Goomba has 7 HP, and Blue Goomba has 6 HP, if you have Power Jump equipped, you can take out one of the Goomba Brothers, this is not a hard fight, as they only deal 1 damage.
After beating them, use the trampoline to advance, the next area has a Mushroom on the notice board, which turns out to be a Goomba, and the next area is Goomba King's Fortress.
After a bit of dialogue, here is the first boss fight in the game, or second if you count the Goomba Brothers, it it against the Goomba King and the Goomba Brothers. In that fight, the Goomba Brothers will be at low HP, you can hit a Goomnut Tree to defeat them right away, the Goomba King has 10 HP, and he is a character that does reappear in later Mario games, he appears in Super Mario 64 DS where he is called Goomboss. The Goomba King has his regular attack which only does one damage, and he can use Ground Stomp to send Goomnuts down for two damage, he is not that hard, as you should have up to two Power Jumps to defeat him.
After that, hit the switch, which sends the Goomba King blasting off like Team Rocket, but at least the bridge is built and we can go to Toad Town, there is a hidden block containing a Super Shroom, this heals 10 HP when used.
Then the scene changes to Princess Peach's Castle, where Kammy Koopa reports to Bowser that the Goomba King was defeated by Mario, and the Koopa Bros. make their appearance, those four could be a reference to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and after that scene, it is back to Mario again. There is a block containing a Sleepy Sheep, this item has a chance of putting enemies to sleep, which makes them unable to attack for a few turns, and when you hammer the tree, you can use the trampoline to open the chest, which contains the Hammer Throw Badge, this uses 2 FP, and Mario throws his hammer at the opponent, and this can even hit flying enemies, like Paragoombas, and then we make it to the entrance to Toad Town, which will be in the next part.
