Persona 3 - Low Level Part 12: Hermit (9/5 Full Moon Event)
Fifth Full Moon event, unique for the fact that Shinjiro is in the party. As everyone knows, his availability in the party is very brief and, though he can also take part in some of the Tartarus boss fights in the next video I'll upload, he can only be seen here simply because it's rather stupid not to use him in a low level run.
Now, Shinjiro being used here comes at the cost of not using Aigis in this battle, which means Aigis will be a little weaker in the subsequent battles due to missing the exp opportunity here. However, Aigis is just weak in this fight in terms of damage potential and is actually a huge liability because of her electric weakness (and I can't fuse her a Tower nihil weapon because the MC is too low-levelled to fuse a Tower Persona for +elec protection). Meanwhile, Shinjiro rivals Ken in join level, but has a humongous physical attack stat, one that can be easily boosted further with +strength equips, which males get a lot of (including the newfangled Dragon Boots).
Shinjiro has the best consistent damage output in the battle, though when the boss is knocked down (the chances are increased with the MC using Revolution on everyone) Ken will be dealing a lot more damage with Cruel Attacks, but in the recording this doesn't happen until the end of the video.
While Ken and Shinjiro are attacking, MC and Akihiko run utility and support functions. MC debuffs the boss's defence with Rakunda, casts Revolution and Matarukaja on the party (this is a duplicable card in the Portable version of Persona 3, so you can teach it to an already fused Persona without having a headache regarding how it can be passed around by multiple fusions) and sometimes provides healing with Media (shortly after this video, I was lucky to get Mediarahan from skill morphing attempts). Akihiko reduces the boss's attack (Magic Mirrors will only recover the boss's HP since he drains Zio magic, so we'll have to suck it up - hence the need for extra durability) and heals allies HP, 100 at a time.
The boss can use some Zio magic on the party before going into repeated Giga Spark stage, where he charges energy for a few turns and then unleashes a multi-target electric magic attack. It helps to be at full health when this happens - it's not terribly dreadful really.
After the battle, Ken gets his first level-up, giving him Mediarama. I think it's easy to see why this makes him so good for the upcoming battles - Dia and items is everybody else's alternative when it comes to healing, and Yukari is such a burden to train just so that she can also use Mediarama (at a level lower than Ken's).
As for Shinjiro, I don't know if I'm going to miss him after this fight... In this battle, he's the centre of my offence, but the level advantage goes away quickly (Ken's offence is really scrubby a dungeon or two later into the challenge, so you can imagine Shinjiro turning out even worse). Unlike Akihiko, Aigis or even Junpei, he doesn't learn any good buffs, so really, this is the one fight where he shines in this challenge.
