Playing Not To Lose and Playing To Win might seem like the same thing on the surface but, in fact, represent very different philosophies.
Playing not to lose is a defensive stance where you are trying to maintain your existing position.
Playing to win is more aggressive but also more risky.
You may assume that my advice will advocate for one or the other but you may be surprised.

We often act like we live in a binary system, but this is rarely the case.

In AAA gamedev, it seems like as people rise through the ranks, they feel like there is more to lose and they become more risk averse even though they can likely absorb the impact better
