This part is where I do some optional stuff, well it is kind of, as you do need to encounter the Lake Trio in order to access stuff in the after-game. There is Uxie at Lake Acuity, Mesprit at Lake Verity, and Azelf at Lake Valor, and I recommend bringing in a Dark-type that is Level 50 or higher, and some Pokémon that can inflict status conditions like sleep or paralysis to try and capture them.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

While you can do this after battling Dialga or Palkia at Spear Pillar, I wanted to wait till after beating Sunyshore Gym, so that way I can train up some Pokémon to Level 50, because in this game, Pokémon that are a higher level than the Pokémon you have out are very likely to break out, and it doesn't help that the Lake Trio have a catch rate of 3, which is the usual Legendary Pokémon catch rate, so I would recommend having a Dark-type Pokémon that is Level 50 or higher, because their only attacking moves are Psychic-type moves. I do like the battle music that plays when fighting the Lake Trio, and while you don't have to encounter them during the main story, you will need to encounter them in order to access the after-game, as they are part of the Sinnoh Dex.
First up is Mesprit at Lake Verity, it will not battle you, instead it will roam around Sinnoh, and Professor Rowan will recommend that you get the Marking Map, which will help track down Mesprit. For catching Mesprit, it will flee right away, but it does have lower priority, so you can weaken Mesprit, for recommendations, if you have a Pokémon with Block, like Snorlax or Bronzong, make sure they are at Level 50, Snorlax learns Yawn, and Bronzong can learn Hypnosis, another good Pokémon to have is Absol, which can learn Mean Look, False Swipe, Swords Dance, and Thunder Wave, Mesprit has Charm which can weaken your Attack stat. I do recommend playing at night, that way Dusk Balls have an easier chance at catching it.
Mesprit is the more balanced out of the three, and it does get some nice moves like Ice Beam, Dazzling Gleam, and many others, so it's not a bad choice to use.
In Lake Acuity, this is where Uxie is at, all three have Imprison, Extrasensory, and Psychic, Uxie has Amnesia, boosting its Special Defense, so it is the easiest out of the three, as for stats, Uxie is the defensive one out of the Lake Trio.
Uxie isn't much of a damage dealer, it can learn Nasty Plot through TM if you want to use it as an attacker, or you can have it as a supporter with Reflect and Light Screen, Uxie learns Yawn at Level 56, so it will take some time to get that move. It can even work with Giga Drain, which can heal Uxie when used, specially with Nasty Plot so that Uxie can last a bit during battle, as it is a defensive Psychic-type Pokémon.
In Lake Valor, which is restored back to normal, this is where Azelf is at, and this one is the more offensive out of the three, it knows Nasty Plot, which is why I recommend having a Level 50 or higher Dark-type on your team for that fight, because Azelf can deal a lot of damage with its moves, it is a lot harder to deal with than Uxie.
For team recommendations, Azelf is a great Pokémon to add to your team if you are in need of a Psychic-type, it has good versatility in TM moves like Flamethrower, Dark Pulse, Dazzling Gleam, Thunderbolt, U-turn, Drain Punch, and many other moves, it does come with Psychic and Nasty Plot, meaning it is ready to fight, but it is not that good at taking hits, so find an opportunity to set up with Nasty Plot so that you can sweep your opponents.
