The third and final battle against the Team Rocket boss, and this game's way of acquiring Earthquake (about damn time). His Pokemon are all evolved now, so it's time for the final showdown with Giovanni for that last gym badge!
His strongest Pokemon are the Nidoroyals, requiring *some* form of strategy instead of just switching in the counter to KO whatever's out (I guess Let's Go is not the easiest 0 exp run strategywise, as the same was true for Sabrina as well).
Dugtrio is the lead, and there couldn't be a better target to set up Reflect on. Tangela, bulky on the physical side with just the right typing (resists ground, unlike most grass-types in the game), gets ready to finish the enemy off but leaves Reflect before the last attack. With Giovanni's party relying exclusively on physical attacks (and I guess Super Fang for fixed damage but that's not fatal), we've just made the threats to come much easier to handle.
Nidoking is 2HKO'd by any of Starmie's STABs and outsped, too, but Megahorn is its coverage move and that OHKOs all too easily in spite of Starmie's decent bulk and the lack of STAB. Reflect helps avoid being killed. Starmie could stay in and KO Rhydon as well, who's too easy of a target with its combination of speed and weaknesses, but I let Slowbro take the hit. He can now take a Megahorn himself.
Nidoqueen is the only one left and this is the mon I was saving Gyarados for. The flying typing makes Earthquake miss, leaving it with very limited offensive optional that can still incur any damage on Gyarados.
Looking forward to teaching Gyarados Dragon Dance via move tutor before the Pokemon League. Any bets on who's going to do most of the heavy lifting in the Elite Four?
