We exact revenge on Wattson for the hell he gave us back in the days of Sapphire 0 exp.

Wattson caused me to employ the cheesiest strategy ever done by me in a 0 exp run (link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGso6KeID4M ) years ago, as I struggled to do anything about his Magneton. I ended up running him out of all PP by switching between Geodude and Sableye. Looking back, there's probably some luck-reliant way to do that fight, e.g. paralyse with Roselia, then pray for hax with multiple Makuhitas w/ Arm Thrust. Back when I did the challenge, I did allow items in-battle, as well as multiple Pokemon of the same species (did the E4 with 2x Gyarados, so I switched them back and forth to reduce Flygon and Salamence's attack all the way down... lol).

Back then, all of Wattson's mons used to know Sonic Boom so they could always hurt Geodude, who couldn't do much back, in the lack of Magnitude or anything else effective. This time Magnemite and Voltorb fall prey to Geodude without any good offensive moves to exploit against him, and Bulldoze is a TM that gives Geodude a 2x/4x effective move for this gym.

The main problem remains Wattson's Magneton who may lack Sturdy (which the weaker Magnemite does have) but has the coverage in Volt Switch/Magnet Bomb, the latter dealing with the sole ground-type available to use (Marshtomp doesn't exist in 0 exp).

Volt Switch deserves an individual mention because it can be abused by the AI to never let me target the mons I want, as they'll keep switching somebody entirely different in, unless the move has no effect.

However, it is I who ends up abusing Volt Switch mechanics here.

Geodude triggers Magnemite's Sturdy with Bulldoze, causing Wattson to use up his sole potion for this battle. Exactly as planned!

When Magneton switches in, I deliberately leave such a Pokemon that would guarantee that Volt Switch be used, and this is where I switch out to my Lightningrod Cosplay Pikachu (this time it's Pikachu PhD), instantly increasing its already high special attack by 50%.

Pikachu PhD's special move is Electric Terrain, which further increases the power of electric-type moves by another 1.5. Though Magneton resists Electro Ball and isn't all that slow, it will be taking very heavy damage from it, while Pikachu is relatively safe with its electric immunity and steel resistance - confusion is actually the biggest risk here now. Electro Ball needs to connect thrice to finish off Wattson's only troublesome mon, and I imagine I could OHKO Magneton if it could be paralysed - sadly (or luckily? I've exploited this immunity a good bit in this run myself) that's not achievable with electrics getting immunity to the status in this generation.

The luck from survival everyone's worst enemy (yourself!) isn't substantial so Magneton should be the one going down in this matchup, and that's a creative way of dealing with it I should think. When Voltorb comes in, Geodude has the impenetrable defences of a rock/ground-type - no longer a good typing since generation 3 everybody says, but it still shuts down plenty of targets whatever the naysayers may say (which is 'nay' iirc).

So take that, Wattson!
