I chose the Pokémon for this week, and I decided to go with one that has the worse stats out of every fully evolved Pokémon in Generation 9, and I went with Tarountula, the early game Bug-type Pokémon of this game. You might be wondering why I chose Tarountula and not Lechonk, despite there being a distribution for Lechonk, and it being promoted on various Pokémon sites, or even games, I chose the Pokémon long before then.
I breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, and I went with Impish for the Nature, its best stat is Defense when evolved, and I wasn't sure about going for the Hidden Ability of Stakeout, but I decided on Insomnia in the end. Tarountula is tied with Nymble for having the lowest base stat total out of every Generation 9 Pokémon at 210, but however, its evolved form Spidops has a base stat total of 404, it has the lowest base stat total out of any fully evolved Pokémon introduced in Generation 9.
For Egg Moves, it can get First Impression, Sucker Punch, Lunge, and Memento, all of which can be learned by Nymble or its evolved form Lokix, the only exception is Memento, which it can learn from Stunky, Hoppip, and Grimer.
As an early game Bug-type, Tarountula evolves at an early level, at Level 15 is when it evolves into Spidops, it will take a bit of time to get Tarountula levelled up before them, and for moves it can get, it has Tackle, String Shot, Struggle Bug, Assurance, Feint, Bug Bite, Block, Counter, Headbutt, Sticky Web, Gastro Acid, Circle Throw, Throat Chop, and Skitter Smack. When it evolves into Spidops, it learns its signature move Silk Trap upon evolution, Silk Trap is a protection move that decreases the opponent's Speed when they make contact.
Next are TMs, and I will list what Spidops can learn, it can get Scary Face, Low Kick, Pounce, Trailblaze, Thief, Aerial Ace, Rock Tomb, Bullet Seed, Brick Break, U-turn, Shadow Claw, Body Slam, Poison Jab, Taunt, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Leech Life, X-Scissor, Giga Drain, Reversal, Giga Impact, Bug Buzz, and Tera Blast.
With all of these moves it can make use of, Spidops has really underwhelming stats, this Pokémon has no hope in the competitive scene with stats this low. This Pokémon has so much potential, it is the only Pokémon to learn Silk Trap, which is a great protection move, it is one of few Pokémon to learn Sticky Web, the others being Kricketune, which also has a very low base stat total, and Masquerain, which has decent stats, but isn't one of the most viable Pokémon in the competitive scene, at least Masquerain does get Intimidate. If I were to go over one notable thing about Spidops, it does have Defense for its best stat, but its HP stat is kind of below average, and at the time, Pikalytics has not updated with the next series of online battles, and in Series 2, Spidops is placed 145th in the rankings, if you want to know who the Pokémon that place 146th to 150th, the order is Spiritomb, Heracross, Oricorio Pom-Pom Style, Honchkrow, and Veluza, who would have expected Spidops to place higher than Heracross of all Pokémon?
Spidops faces competition with Lokix, because it learns almost every move Spidops can learn, like First Impression, Lunge, Throat Chop, U-turn, and Sucker Punch, and Lokix has the stats to make those moves work. Spidops can use Circle Throw, which pairs well with Sticky Web, and it can even set up entry hazards, but the only Pokémon that can get Circle Throw in this game is Lucario, which never uses the move, while there are better Pokémon that can set up entry hazards, like Forretress which also learns Spikes and Toxic Spikes. Spidops even has no use in Double Battles, if you want to use a Bug-type, just use Scizor, even Pokémon like Frosmoth, Vivillon, and Rabsca see more use than Spidops in Double Battles.
As for the main game, while it does evolve early, Spidops is at least decent in the early game, but it does start to fall off around the mid-game when you start getting more stronger Pokémon, making it hard for Spidops to keep up with the others. Even using Tarountula in the early game can be challenging due to not having a reliable Bug-type move until Level 14, but with Lunge and First Impression, this can help Tarountula out early on.
As with Tera Raids, I did read somewhere that one player used a Spidops to help against a 6 Star Clodsire Tera Raid because Insomnia prevented Spidops from being affected by Yawn, and Gastro Acid helped remove Clodsire's Unaware, that is at least something, and despite the utility Spidops has, most other Pokémon tend to do much better. I am sure that Spidops will become the new Dunsparce, where it is a Pokémon that has a lot of potential, but has really weak stats to put them to use, I don't know whether to use Dunsparce as an example anymore, because Dunsparce did get an evolution in this generation. If I were to compare Spidops to another Pokémon, it would be Kricketune, both being fully evolved Bug-type Pokémon with a very low base stat total.
