I don't know whether or not to call my online matches as gameplay videos of the Pokémon, because I prefer doing CPU battles over Random Battles due to how players do in online battles. I might as well go over the new Pokémon that was added in the update, Goodra is now available, and it is confirmed that Lapras is the next Pokémon to be coming to Pokémon UNITE, and while information is not confirmed yet, I am expecting Lapras to be a Defender as it has a high HP stat in the main series games.
Goodra is a Defender, and this is the first we have had since Trevenant, which was a year ago. This Pokémon has a really rough start, because while it starts out as a Goomy, it isn't as powerful during then, its Ability is Gooey, when Goodra is hit by an attack, it can leave slime on the target, which can slow down opposing Pokémon, and the Gooey effect can stack up to four times per opposing Pokémon, and when it enters the tall grass, it can recovert HP for a set amount of time until it leaves the grass.
Its starting moves as Goomy are Bubble and Tackle, and for its basic attack, it becomes a booster attack every three hits, and that can leave slime onto the opposing Pokémon, and it deals increased damage when at close range, and it reduces the cooldown for its moves. As with its moves in the Goomy stage, Bubble gives Goomy a shield, and when it pops, it decreases the movement speed of any opposing Pokémon nearby. Tackle is a charge attack that deals damage and has Goomy bounce back at a short distance.
At Level 5, Goomy will evolve into Sliggoo, and it learns Muddy Water or Dragon Pulse, those replace Bubble. Muddy Water has an area effect that decreases the amount of damage opposing Pokémon deal for a short time, and this increases Sliggoo's Defense and Special Defense for a short time, and it can stack up to four times. Dragon Pulse is a ranged attack which deals damage to opposing Pokémon, the center of the shock wave deals increased damage and restores Sliggoo's HP, and it also restores HP when Dragon Pulse hits opposing Pokémon that have a Gooey effect on them.
At Level 8, Sliggoo will evolve into Goodra, and it learns Power Whip or Acid Spray, those replace Tackle. Power Whip deals damage to opposing Pokémon and slows them down, and if they are distant, they are pulled towards Goodra, and Acid Spray deals damage with an acidic fluid which decreases movement speed, and when used again, Goodra charges in a designated direction at an opposing Pokémon, and if it hits any marked opponents, it throws that Pokémon, and any nearby will also take damage.
Goodra's Unite Move is Right as Rain, which it learns at Level 9, and this gradually restores Goodra's HP, and while active, all of its basic attacks become boosted attacks. At Level 11, Muddy Water or Dragon Pulse are upgraded, Muddy Water further increases Goodra's Defense and Special Defense when it deals damage to opposing Pokémon, and Dragon Pulse restores more HP when the center of the shock wave hits an opposing Pokémon that has a Gooey effect applied to them. At Level 13, Power Whip or Acid Spray are upgraded, and both apply a Gooey slowing effect on opposing Pokémon when they hit, for Acid Spray, it is the fluid or the charge that can apply it to foes.
The Gooey effect does lower the cooldown of Goodra's moves, and as it is a Defender, it can take hits very well in battle, some good battle items for it are Focus Band, Rocky Helmet, and Assault Vest if it wants to go defensively with Power Whip and Muddy Water, it can even go offensive with the newly added Slick Spoon to penetrate its opponent's Special Defense with Dragon Pulse and Acid Spray. While I am not a fan of using Defenders, I do like Goodra's playstyle, and I find the Muddy Water and Power Whip combo good for lasting a while in battle, while Dragon Pulse is therre if I want to go on the offensive. Goodra doesn't do well in crowd control, unlike most other Defenders like Snorlax and Mamoswine, and it does take a while for it to scale to get its better moves.
Goodra was one of the five of six Pokémon that was leaked shortly after Comfey's addition to Pokémon UNITE, and this was one of the few that I didn't know about prior to its addition, I knew about Zacian and Lapras prior to their announcement, and I did see two other Pokémon, I will let you know which ones they were once they are confirmed. Out of the roles for Lapras, I see that thing to be a Defender, because in the main series games, Lapras has a massive HP stat and it is quite defensive, or it could work as a Supporter, as it does learn some moves that can support allies, but Defender is the most likely role for Lapras once it is added.
