Like what I did in Sword & Shield when I started Surprise Trade, I did the three Starter Pokémon of that generation, and as I have done the first two, I have decided to trade Quaxly for this week.
I breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, and I did breed some with the Hidden Ability of Moxie, but there are some that have Torrent, you can use an Ability Patch to change the Nature, that is currently the only way you get get the Paldea starters with their Hidden Ability. I went with Adamant for the Nature, as Quaxly is a Physical Attacker, and Jolly can be good if you want more Speed on it, but I prefer Adamant as its final evolution Quaquaval can boost its own Speed with its signature move, and its stats are quite well rounded.
Quaxly learns four Egg Moves, those being Last Resort, Rapid Spin, Roost, and Detect, and I don't want to make a list on every Pokémon that learns the move, but I can give some examples, it can get Last Resort from Eevee and its evolved forms, Rapid Spin from Torkoal, Bergmite, or Cyclizar, Roost from various Flying-type Pokémon, like Flamigo or Kilowattrel, and Detect from Meditite, Lucario, or Hawlucha.
Then for evolutions, Quaxly evolves into Quaxwell at Level 16, and it evolves into its final form Quaquaval at Level 36. Quaxly can learn Water Gun as a starting move, best to replace Last Resort or Detect if you are doing like a Surprise Trade challenge, and it does get Pound for a reliable Normal-type early game move, but Rapid Spin has more power and it boosts Quaxly's Speed when used. Through level up, it can learn Work Up, Wing Attack, Aqua Jet, Double Hit, Aqua Cutter, Air Slash, Focus Energy, Acrobatics, and Liquidation. Quaxly can be evolved right away, as Quaxwell learns Water Pulse and Low Sweep after evolving in a few levels, and it can get Feather Dance. When fully evolved, Quaquaval learns its signature move Aqua Step, which boosts its Speed when used, and it can learn Mega Kick, Close Combat, and Wave Crash, and it can get Counter through the Move Reminder.
Next up is TMs, and I will list what Quaquaval can learn, as there are some its pre-evolved forms cannot learn, it can get Agility, Low Kick, Chilling Water, Aerial Ace, Icy Wind, Brick Break, U-turn, Bulk Up, Taunt, Swords Dance, Encore, Ice Spinner, Baton Pass, Reversal, Misty Terrain, Brave Bird, Water Pledge, Hydro Cannon, and Tera Blast.
While all three of the Paldea starters have good viability in the competitive scene, Quaquaval is the least popular out of the three, for their rankings in the current season, Skeledirge is 11th place, Meowscarada is 14th, and Quaquaval is 55th, and for Double Battles, Quaquaval is once again the least popular out of the three, placing 76th, while Meowscarada is 27th, and Skeledirge is 51st.
Going over online battles, Quaquaval can sweep foes if it has enough set-up, its signature Aqua Step can boost its Attack, and with Moxie, it can gain enough boosts to get through entire teams. Close Combat is its Fighting-type move of choice, and Ice Spinner for type coverage, the fourth move is usually a filler move, it can have Aqua Jet, Roost, or Encore, and Water is a good Tera Type on Quaquaval to power up its Aqua Step, if you want a different Tera Type, Electric to deal with opposing Water-type Pokémon with Tera Blast is a decent option, and you don't need a defensive Tera Type, as Quaquaval is all about getting in some huge hits and sweeping foes.
While not as popular in Double Battles compared to other Water-type Pokémon like Gyarados or Palafin, Quaquaval is a solid option, it can use Close Combat and Aqua Step for its main moves, Water is still the best Tera Type, Flying and Ice are good alternatives for its coverage moves, like Brave Bird and Ice Spinner, it's still a decent Pokémon in battle.
If you want to know about Quaquaval's performance in Tera Raids, it's not the worse Pokémon, but it faces competition from other Water-type Pokémon, and it can use Swords Dance to boost its Attack, while Aqua Step or Liquidation work for its Water-type move of choice, it can lower the opponent's stats with moves like Feather Dance and Chilling Water, and it can use Taunt to prevent them from using a status move, Water is the best Tera Type for Quaquaval in Tera Raids.
It's also good when going through the game, and with Moxie, it can be a good early game sweeper, although it isn't until Level 13 that Quaxly learns its first Physical Water-type move in Aqua Jet, and it gets Low Sweep shortly after evolving, and Aqua Cutter at Level 25, giving it some good moves until it is fully evolved. Before learning Close Combat at Level 58, Quaquaval can learn Brick Break through TM to give it a more reliable Fighting-type move until then, and its access to Acrobatics is really good if it isn't holding an item, all three of the starters are good when going through the game, and they have really good signature moves as well.
