This will be the last video in the Blueberry Prologue session. Normally, it’s not worth mentioning as I normally have five videos in a session anyway, but this was pushed forward by two days for Splatfest-related reasons, so I figured I should let you know. The schedule for this one is pretty odd.

Pokémon battle videos for Scarlet and Violet will resume in the second week of February. If everything goes as planned, it should be from February 5th to February 9th, 2024. That means there will be two weeks of miscellaneous videos. I have some of them scheduled and planned, though I will be working on an unrelated personal project over January 27th through January 30th, so there will be a brief break on those four days. This is a heads up.

If you’re wondering, the Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Superstars playthroughs are still going to happen in the future, but I don’t know when. Right now, I’m going through Super Mario Bros. Wonder at my own pace, though The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero had eaten into a lot of that time, as well as various things happening in Splatoon 3. I think I’m about 80% of the way through Wonder; I’ll start on Sonic once I’m done with that. I have no plans for a playthrough of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Type: Double Battle
Opponent: すぶた (Subuta)
Battle Court: Blueberry Academy
Music: Star Barrage
My Pokémon: Serperior, Empoleon, Charizard, Inteleon
Opponent's Pokémon: モルフォン (Venomoth), アシレーヌ (Primarina), エルフーン (Whimsicott), テラパゴス (Terapagos)

Serperior’s stats might not look like it would be such a menace, but thanks to Contrary, the royal snake has become even more fearsome. Previously, Leaf Storm was the only move Serperior could learn that was strong and would normally lower Sp. Attack, which, with Contrary would raise Sp. Attack instead. This alone made Serperior something to watch out for when making any team, because allowing Serperior to use Leaf Storm even once is enough to build up the momentum needed to plow through anything else.

Well, this generation, and specifically the Indigo Disk, gave Serperior another option: Stellar-type Tera Blast, which normally lowers Attack and Sp. Attack but also raises them. Combined with Serperior’s great Speed, the Stellar-type Terastallization turns Serperior into a force made to fight the opponent’s own Terastallized Pokémon.

This is something my opponent seemed to have briefly forgotten about, which is uncharacteristic, as their rating suggests they’ve been on a winning streak (or had come down from an even more impressive winning streak). Perhaps all the more impressive that they’ve been doing it with Venomoth in their team, a Pokémon I almost never see anybody use. This one has Acid Spray, which she uses in conjunction with a special attack from Venomoth’s partner so it deals double damage (under most conditions, that is), as well as Rage Powder, which works nicely with Wonder Skin. This is an Ability found on very few Pokémon species (currently, only Venomoth and Bruxish can have this Ability naturally; the others are as of yet unavailable). Wonder Skin sets all status moves used against the user at 50% accuracy. Hence, Venomoth can redirect status moves and make them have no effect. In a way, this is the opposite of Prankster.

This is the first generation that Venomoth can know both Acid Spray and Rage Powder—Rage Powder was already availabl as an Egg Move when the move debuted in Generation V, but Generation IX was the first time Acid Spray is a TM. Venomoth’s defensive stats are not that great though; nevertheless, people turned Indeedee into walls.

They also forgot that, as a Grass-type, Serperior is not redirected by Rage Powder. After all, it is a powder move, and thus it has no effect on Grass Pokémon. Consider this luck though—Serperior is the only Pokémon in the Blueberry Pokédex with both Contrary and the Grass-type, not including Malamar with Tera Grass.

Something to consider regarding Terapagos is that he can only reach his full power when he Terastallizes. Since you can only Terastallize one Pokémon per battle, you’ll either need to withhold Terastallization for all of your other Pokémon, or, in the case of my opponent this battle, use Terapagos in his Terastal Form instead of Stellar Form. Terapagos is still strong in this form, just not Restricted Pokémon strong.
