Before we had the FrostyFest, we had a Challenge: “Towering Tower Control.” In this one, the Tower is taller than normal, with the wire mesh removed and a “second floor” added, made entirely of wire mesh, a short distance above the tower. The pole on the tower is also now inkable, at least up to where you can access the second floor. Otherwise, the tower moves the same way and follows the same path. This is set on Hagglefish Market and Undertow Spillway. Reading the Challenge’s description, I thought the tower would be scaled up but otherwise looking the same, and I was wondering how they’re going to fit the tower in the latter, since it’s full of close quarters areas. Hagglefish Market is full of open spaces, so I didn’t think anything of it.

I wanted to put this up before the FrostyFest videos, but there wasn’t any room in the schedule for it until now.

Here is the Pacific Daylight Time schedule. As January 8th is a Monday, I couldn’t play any of those timeslots, so I played the first one available:
January 7th, 2024: 6 PM to 8 PM, 10 PM to midnight
January 8th, 2024: 2 AM to 4 AM, 6 AM to 8 AM, 10 AM to noon, 2 PM to 4 PM

Overall, this was an interesting new take on Tower Control, but frankly, I like the original tower better. It’s a lot easier to move around on the original tower, and a floor made entirely of grating that ink passes through makes the new tower both very dangerous to be on there and gives an excessive advantage to short-range weapons that can attack from below. That’s…why I decided upon the Painbrush!

For reasons I'm keeping confidential, I will take an unplanned break. If all goes well, there should be more videos up on February 1st, 2024, making this "break" one week in length. Though I won't say the exact reasons, it's due to circumstances beyond my control. I'll see you soon, though I will still respond to comments.

Song: “Slopping Spree” by Chirpy Chips

Aerosprays are short-range, but I don’t think they’re that effective in a mode like this, at least as a means to claim or reclaim the tower. Though we pushed very far inward, once the opposing team claimed the tower, it seems our defense effectively disintegrated, with those two Aerospray users not really knowing what to do. The Booyah Bomb in particular is slow and easy to escape from once you see it coming; it isn’t a “reclaim tower” button!

04:58 - Match #2
Hagglefish Market
Tower Control (Towering Tower Control)
Painbrush
Color Scheme: Blueberry Lemonade
Song: “Sea Me Now” by Front Roe
Octolings: 4
Another thing I observed is that many people effectively stop inking and stand there, idle, on the second floor of the tower. My only guess is that they’ve run out of ink and don’t know what else to do, not realizing that they can swim into the stick in the center of the tower to refill, which also conceals your location inconspicuously. The other team knew this and spread their ink far and wide. Eventually, we were cornered and had little we could do, even though in the later phases, I was trying to ink—and kept getting attacked.

10:42 - Match #3
Hagglefish Market
Tower Control (Towering Tower Control)
Painbrush
Color Scheme: Field of Flowers
Song: “Sandy Side Up” by Front Roe
Octolings: 4
Of course, there’s also a strong likelyhood that I’ll find myself with people who DO know what they’re doing. They continue to attack and refill on the tower, as well as ink the ground in front so impede opponents and make it easier for teammates on the ground to go on ahead and get people ahead of them. But this does mean there aren’t a lot of close matches in this Challenge.

12:41 - Match #4
Hagglefish Market
Tower Control (Towering Tower Control)
Painbrush
Color Scheme: Blueberry Lemonade
Song: “Slopping Spree” by Chirpy Chips
Octolings: 7
I could understand why Hagglefish Market was chosen for this Challenge: The second floor of the tower goes right up next to one of the ledges pretty close to the spawn point. You’ll see me hop off the tower to go after someone attacking from that ledge, which my teammates then used to ride the tower further. I rarely saw anyone on either side do this.

14:55 - Match #5
Undertow Spillway
Tower Control (Towering Tower Control)
Hydra Splatling
Color Scheme: Action Movie Poster
Song: “Triple Dip” by C-Side
This was not originally going to be part of this video, but I only realized after assembling the video that I hadn’t put up any matches on Undertow Spillway. That being said, this was my first match, and I began with the Hydra Splatling. I hadn’t yet understood the nature of the tower and thought that a bigger tower meant a better vantage point.
