Koga, promoted from gym leader since the good old days when Red and Blue kicked ass, is the second E4 member. Koga is a mastermind, an innovative genius who recognises that Pokemon are not only a brute force but also a form of annoyance. And he's not lying one bit, as two of his Pokemon have evasion upping moves, and there's also poison, confusion and trapping to be aware of.

This is bad news, but the good news is that Koga isn't as offensively overpowered as Will (no more STAB Psychics on everything, though Venomoth still claimed dibs on his), and Steelix walls all of his team completely, though there are Pokemon who secure quicker and more reliable KOs.

Dodrio enters the battlefield for the first time here. I mainly brought it to face Bruno, but with all the bugs it's quite fitting here too. I gave it Choice Scarf so that it can outspeed not only the slow Ariados but also Venomoth. Venomoth kills it with Gust in mid-air though, which is kind of a shame considering how laughable it is (so is Dodrio with its horrid lv. 30 defence, though).

Forretress is the hardest one to take down, and while you're trying to do so, it may set up two layers of Toxic Spikes and boom in your face. Doesn't feel good. I taught Machamp Fire Blast here and gave him Choice Specs, securing an OHKO. Not sure if Choice Specs is necessary, but I'm guessing Machamp's subpar special attack and the level difference demand the CS boost to special attack.

Muk and Crobat abuse evasion. I have Steelix take care of Muk (who has absolutely nothing that would hurt a steel-type), and Ursaring can survive two Wing Attacks while suffering poison damage, so he's pretty good, too. Gave him a Silk Scarf to power up Facade. Probably could've Swords Danced here until I could OHKO with Facade, but I was afraid I wouldn't be be able to connect an attack on it at all after it spammed Double Team.

After this video, I memorised for good that poison damage doesn't occur at the end of the battle. If it did, I'd say goodbye to my Quick Feet 210 BP Facade Ursaring.

Next: Bruno! Those fighting-types have definitely improved since the second generation.
