This is the final Surprise Trade before the release of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, but I will continue Surprise Trade on Sword & Shield, possibly until Generation 9. For this week, I will be trading Klink, and as usual, I breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, but for a genderless Pokémon like Klink, it can only breed with Ditto, but I do have a Ditto with 31 IVs in all 6 stats, and it is a foreign Ditto, so it can boost the chances of hatching a Shiny Pokémon.
I went with an Adamant Nature on Klink, as Attack is its higher stat when it comes to attacking, Klink's highest stat is Defense, and I went with the Hidden Ability of Clear Body, as Plus and Minus don't work in Single Battles, and Klink has a higher Attack stat than Special Attack, so there's no reason to have them. Klink does not get any Egg Moves as it is a genderless Pokémon, and this is a very tricky Pokémon to use in the main story, as it doesn't evolve into Klang until Level 38, and it isn't until Level 49 that it evolves into Klinklang, and its movepool is very limited.
Going over Klink's moves, it has Thunder Shock and Vise Grip, which are its starting moves, it can learn Bind, Charge, Charge Beam, Metal Sound, Aututomize, Discharge, Screech, Gear Grind, Lock-On, Shift Gear, Zap Cannon, and Hyper Beam. You can hold off Klink's evolution until Level 40 when it learns Shift Gear, because Klang learns it at Level 42, so it would be good having Shift Gear earlier. As for Klinklang's level up moves, it can learn Gear Up, Magnetic Flux, and Electric Terrain. Gear Up boosts Attack and Special Attack of allies with Plus or Minus, and Magnetic Flux boosts Defense and Special Defense for Pokémon with those Abilities.
Going over Klinklang's very limited movepool, and I will mainly be going over Klinklang's TM and TR moves, as there are some that Klink or Klang cannot learn. From TMs, it can get Giga Impact, Thunder Wave, Screech, Sandstorm, Assurance, Facade, Trick Room, and Volt Switch, and for TRs, it can learn Thunderbolt, Thunder, Substitute, Endure, Uproar, Iron Defense, Power Gem, Flash Cannon, Ally Switch, and Wild Charge, and for Tutor moves, it can learn Steel Beam, Rising Voltage, and Steel Roller.
If you are wondering why Clear Body, this is Klinklang's only Ability that is worth using in Single Battles, and for Pokémon that have Plus or Minus, the only other Pokémon that get Plus that are in this game are Dedenne and Amped Form Toxtricity, and the Pokémon that get Minus are Manectric and Low-Key Form Toxtricity.
While Steel is a good type defensively, Klinklang does not have a lot of HP, it has solid Defense, but it can be tricky to use with its limited movepool, for attacking moves, it can use Gear Grind and Wild Charge, and that is about it, it can use Shift Gear to boost its Attack and Speed, and another move to fill in the fourth slot is Substitute. There isn't really much else to go over with Klinklang, as those are the moves it will likely ever use, and as a Steel-type, it is outclassed by Metagross, Ferrothorn, Celesteela, Skarmory, Aegislash, and many others, and as for Double Battles, there isn't really any reason to use Klinklang. As stated, Toxtricity shouldn't use any other Ability than Punk Rock, Dedenne is rarely ever used, and Manectric should have Lightning Rod, and if you were wondering, despite Plusle and Minun being made for Double Battles, they were terrible even in Double Battles.
For being such a cool Pokémon, I do like the Klink line, specially their animation in Black & White where they are a bunch of gears rotating, but I feel like these are Pokémon that don't get much attention, even from people that say Gen 1 had better designs, even though we had Pokémon like Magnemite, Grimer, and Koffing which were based on inanimate objects, so if Gen 1 can have those kinds of Pokémon, then I don't see why Gen 5 shouldn't have them.
