It is the 25th Anniversary of the Pokémon series, and if you don't know why this is a big deal, the reason is because February 27th 1996 was the release date for Pokémon Red & Green in Japan. This time of year is known as Pokémon Day, because it is to celebrate the anniversary of the Pokémon series, and there is a Mystery Gift event around this time from February 25th till March 25th where you can obtain a Pikachu that knows the move Sing, which is a move Pikachu cannot normally learn, it also has Encore, Celebrate, and Electro Ball for moves, and it will be holding a Light Ball, and it is part of the P25 music campaign.
Around that time, there is a special Wild Area event from February 26th till February 28th, and there will be increased appearances of Gigantamax Pikachu in Max Raid Battles, with a rare chance of finding a Shiny Pikachu, and if 1 million or more players total defeat Pikachu, all players will receive 100 Armorite Ore and 100 Dynite Ore, this is a really good reward.
Gigantamax Pikachu is a really tricky Max Raid Battle, because its G-Max Volt Crash can paralyze all targets and it can use Double Team to boost its Evasiveness, and they only appear in 5 Star Max Raid Battles, because for 4 Star Max Raid Battles, the Fighting and Psychic-type Pokémon are still in the event.
There was also the Pokémon Presents stream, which is like a Nintendo Direct, but for Pokémon, and they revealed some new info, first was New Pokémon Snap, which will be coming out in April 30th, and they revealed more details about that game.
The next one was the one thing many players were expecting, and it is Diamond & Pearl remakes, they will be known as Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, and these games will be developed by ILCA, and it will be released in late 2021, and the game has a similar style to The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the Nintendo Switch with the chibi style for characters.
They also revealed another game which will be releasing in 2022, and it will take place in Sinnoh, and it is an open world kind of game, much like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade Chronicles, and it has a different style to the main series Pokémon games, it is called Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which is set in old time Sinnoh, and Arceus is said to have an important role in that game.
The Pokémon series has come a long way, and it has had many spin-off games, like Pokémon Pinball, Hey You, Pikachu!, Pokémon Trading Card Game for Game Boy, Pokémon Puzzle League, Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Puzzle Challenge, Pokémon Stadium 2, the Pokémon Mini console that released in 2001, The E-Reader, Pokémon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire, Pokémon Channel, Pokémon Colosseum, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Pokémon Dash, Pokémon Trozei (Pokémon Link in Europe), Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team & Blue Rescue Team, Pokémon Ranger, Pokémon Battle Revolution, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness & Sky, Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Pokémon Rumble, PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games for WiiWare that was only released in Japan, but it did receive a fan translation last year, Pokémon Battrio which was only released in Japan, Learn With Pokémon: Typing Adventure, a Pokémon typing game that only released in Japan and Europe, and was never released in America, Pokémon Rumble Blast (Super Pokémon Rumble in Europe), Pokémon Dream Radar, PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, Pokédex 3D, Pokédex 3D Pro, Pokémon Rumble U, Pokémon Conquest, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, Pokémon Battle Trozei (Pokémon Link Battle in Europe), Pokémon Shuffle, Pokémon Bank, Pokémon Art Academy, Pokémon Rumble World, Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Pokkén Tournament, Pokémon Picross, Detective Pikachu, Pokémon Duel, Pokémon GO, Pokémon: Magikarp Jump, Pokémon Rumble Rush, Pokémon Quest, Pokkén Tournament DX, Pokémon HOME, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, Pokémon Masters, Pokémon Smile, Pokémon Café Mix, and the currently unreleased Pokémon Unite.
Pokémon has had an Anime which has been around since 1997, and the first episode, I am not making this up, aired in Japan on April 1st, and it has been going since, and it has had 23 movies, and one Live-Action Movie, which was Detective Pikachu.
There was also the Super Smash Bros. series which has had Pokémon characters throughout the series, Super Smash Bros. 64 has had Pikachu and Jigglypuff as playable characters, Melee included Pichu and Mewtwo, both were cut from Brawl, which included Pokémon Trainer with Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard, as well as Lucario as playable characters, Smash for 3DS & Wii U added Greninja as a newcomer, Charizard as its own character, and Mewtwo as DLC, and Ultimate included every character, including the return of Pichu and Pokémon Trainer, bringing back Squirtle and Ivysaur, and adding Incineroar as the newcomer, I wonder if we'll get a Gen 8 Pokémon for upcoming Smash DLC.
