Next up in Pokémon UNITE is Gyarados, a Pokémon with a rough start, but once you get past that rough start, it is a powerful All-Arounder. The next two Pokémon were leaked, one of which I am speculating will be released at around Pokémon Day, I have seen what Pokémon it is all because of those kinds of people that put it in the video thumbnail, and it got worse to the point I even had to report these videos. I will not spoil what Pokémon it is, but it will likely be a very powerful Pokémon, not going to go over what kind it is, but as we had Zacian last year which came out on Pokémon Day, we could get something like that this year.
Time to go over Gyarados, it starts out battles as Magikarp, but it has a special gimmick, and that is the effort Gauge. Each stage has two different Abilities, as a Magikarp, it has Rattled, which increases its movement speed if it is damaged by opposing Pokémon, and can stack up to 5 times. Its effort Gauge increases anytime Magikarp knocks out an opposing Pokémon, scores a goal, or makes a contribution in battle, and when it is full up, it will evolve into Gyarados. It has Moxie as Gyarados, which reduces the cooldown of its moves when it knocks out an opposing Pokémon or makes an assist.
For basic attacks, Magikarp attacks nearby Pokémon, while Gyarados deals increased damage for every third attack. For starting moves, Magikarp has Flail to deal damage to opposing Pokémon, and it deals more damage the lower HP it has, and Splash has it jump to a designated direction and can store up to 3 uses.
Magikarp evolves into Gyarados when its effort gauge is full, or at Level 7. When evolved, Flail is replaced by Dragon Breath or Aqua Tail, and Splash is replaced with Waterfall or Bounce. Dragon Breath is a ranged attack that paralyzes opponents, and it boosts Gyarados's basic attacks for a short time with increased basic attack speed, and it is greater the more opposing Pokémon that are hit by the move. Aqua Tail hits opposing Pokémon continuously, and it can be used again if it hits three times, the second stage has Gyarados charge power and sweep to attack at a wider area, and if power is charged for a longer amount of time, it has an increased area of effect and damage.
Waterfall has Gyarados charge three times to deal damage, and it can change direction for each charge, if the second charge hits opposing Pokémon, Gyarados is granted a shield, and the third hit throws opposing Pokémon. Bounce has Gyarados charge power and bounce to a designated location, and it has greater distance if charged for longer, and if charged for a certain amount of time, it receives a shield, and it will apply a movement speed decrease on the opposing Pokémon it hits when it lands.
Gyarados's Unite Move is Dragon Current, which it learns at Level 9, Gyarados dives underwater where it can't be targeted by opposing Pokémon, and when used again, it comes out and attacks. If underwater for a set amount of time, Gyarados creates a whirlpool when it surfaces, and it will apply a continuous slowing effect on opposing Pokémon hit, and if for longer, it creates a waterspout which throws opposing Pokémon.
At Level 11, Dragon Breath or Aqua Tail are upgraded, Dragon Breath increases damage dealt by the move and basic attacks, and Aqua Tail has the second stage deal additional damage based on the percent of HP it has lost. At Level 13, Waterfall or Bounce are upgraded, Waterfall has reduced cooldown, and Bounce has a strengthened shield effect when used.
Gyarados is a very powerful All-Rounder, its best items are Muscle Band, Scope Lens, and Weakness Policy, which goes well with its Ability, and it has some very powerful move options, the best is Waterfall and Dragon Breath. There is drawbacks to Gyarados, and that is the start of the match where it is a Magikarp, because during that stage, it is very weak, and it takes being at Level 7 or fill up the effort gauge till it is full up, and it has a disadvantage against Pokémon that can disable it, like Slowbro and Alolan Ninetales, as well as many of the Defenders in the game. I do like how Gyarados learns both of its moves after it evolves instead of one at Level 5 and the second at Level 7 like most other Pokémon in the game.
