Now at the halfway point, and next up is Ecruteak Gym, which use Ghost-type Pokémon. The Trainers make use of status conditions, and they also include other types like Normal, Poison, Water, and a few other types. This isn't an easy Gym if Round 2 has increased difficulty and there is having to deal with status conditions, which was why I decided to go with Pokémon like Kadabra, Graveler, and Fearow to take on some of the Pokémon in Ecruteak Gym.
I will list each Trainers, and the nicknames of the Pokémon, with the species name of the Pokémon in brackets, as well as their held item.
Battle 1: Medium Holly
Gastium (Gastly): Psychic, Night Shade, Giga Drain, Spite (Spell Tag)
Noctium (Noctowl): Take Down, Wing Attack, Faint Attack, Foresight (PRZCureBerry)
Weepinium (Weepinbell): Razor Leaf, Encore, Slam, Sludge Bomb (Mint Berry)
Qwilium (Qwilfish): Surf, Sludge Bomb, Ice Beam, Flail (Bitter Berry)
Kingium (Seaking): Waterfall, Horn Attack, Psybeam, Haze (Gold Berry)
Ditium (Ditto): Transform (Metal Powder)

Battle 2: Sage Ty
Hauntage (Haunter): Double Team, Mean Look, Curse, Shadow Ball (PRZCureBerry)
Grimage (Grimer): Mud-Slap, Mean Look, Zap Cannon, Ice Punch (Mint Berry)
Jynxage (Jynx): Mud-Slap, Mean Look, DynamicPunch, Shadow Ball (Ice Berry)
Golage (Golbat): Double Team, Mean Look, Steel Wing, Faint Attack (Bitter Berry)
Mukage (Muk): Mud-Slap, Mean Look, Zap Cannon, Ice Punch (Burnt Berry)
Murkage (Murkrow): Mud-Slap, Mean Look, Night Shade, Drill Peck (PSNCureBerry)

Battle 3: Gym Leader Morty
Gengar: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Fire Punch, Confuse Ray (King's Rock)
Mantine: Surf, Wing Attack, Ice Beam, Confuse Ray (BrightPowder)
Granbull: Take Down, Shadow Ball, Sludge Bomb, Lick (Scope Lens)
Lapras: Surf, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Body Slam (MiracleBerry)
Misdreavus: Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt, Psychic, Confuse Ray (Focus Band)
Exeggutor: Psychic, Giga Drain, Double-Edge, Stun Spore (Quick Claw)

The Trainers are a step up in difficulty, the first opponent has a Ditto with the Metal Powder, which increases Ditto's Defense and Special Defense by 50% when held, but it only works before Ditto is transformed. For some reason Gastly has the Spell Tag, and Night Shade is not boosted by it, it doesn't even have Shadow Ball, and there are some status moves to deal with, Weepinbell's Encore and Seaking's Haze. The second opponent has Mean Look, and some of his Pokémon have Mud-Slap and some have Double Team to reduce your chances of your attacks connecting, his Grimer and Muk have Zap Cannon to paralyze your Pokémon, and Haunter can use Curse to make your Pokémon lose 25% HP at the end of each turn.
Gym Leader Morty does use Gengar in the battle, but he does have some type variety with his Pokémon, and he uses a Misdreavus, which I am not sure why they didn't even give him that Pokémon in Gold & Silver, as it is the only Ghost-type introduced in the generation. He also has some held items on his Pokémon, Gengar has the King's Rock to flinch your Pokémon 30% of the time, and it has high Speed. Morty does have some Pokémon that can inflict status conditions, like Confuse Ray to inflict confusion, his Exeggutor has Stun Spore, Lapras and Granbull can inflict paralysis with Body Slam and Lick repsectively. Granbull does have Shadow Ball to deal with Psychic and Ghost-type Pokémon, and the Scope Lens for boosted critical hit chance, Lapras has a MiracleBerry to cure any status condition, Misdreavus has a Focus Band to give it a chance to survive an attack, and Exeggutor has the Quick Claw to allow it to attack first.
