For this week's Surprise Trade, I have chosen the Pokémon, and I decided that a Dragon-type Pokémon would be the best pick, and the one I went with is Dratini. I breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, and I went with Adamant for the Nature, as the Dratini line have Attack for the highest stat, and some of which have the Hidden Ability of Marvel Scale, which turns into Multiscale when fully evolved into Dragonite, otherwise it is Shed Skin for the normal Ability, and Inner Focus when fully evolved.
For Egg Moves, I went with Dragon Breath, Water Pulse, Extreme Speed, and Aqua Jet, its other moves are Supersonic and Mist, Water Pulse is a TM move, and Extreme Speed can be learned by Dragonite normally, it used to be an event exclusive move on Dratini way back in Pokémon Crystal. For its other moves, it can get Aqua Jet from Buizel, Clauncher, and Quaxly, and it can get Dragon Breath from Charmander, Bagon, Swablu, Gible, Deino, and many other Pokémon.
Dratini's starting moves are Wrap and Leer, having Dragon Breath does give Dratini a solid Dragon-type move when starting out, and Extreme Speed is a powerful priority move to help out early on. For its level up moves, it can get Twister, Thunder Wave, Dragon Tail, Agility, Slam, Aqua Tail, Dragon Rush, Safeguard, Rain Dance, Dragon Dance, Outrage, and Hyper Beam. It evolves into Dragonair at Level 30, and its final evolution Dragonite is at Level 55, and when fully evolved, it can get Hurricane, Extreme Speed, Roost, Fire Punch, Thunder Punch, and Wing Attack.
Next is TMs, and I will go over what Dragonite can learn, it can get Scary Face, Low Kick, Chilling Water, Fire Spin, Aerial Ace, Bulldoze, Swift, Icy Wind, Rock Tomb, Air Cutter, Brick Break, Ice Punch, Body Slam, Light Screen, Waterfall, Dragon Claw, Stomping Tantrum, Rock Slide, Fly, Iron Head, Tailwind, Dragon Pulse, Heat Wave, Encore, Surf, Ice Spinner, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Fire Blast, Hydro Pump, Blizzard, Earthquake, Stone Edge, Giga Impact, Focus Blast, Thunder, Draco Meteor, Tera Blast, Haze, Focus Punch, Scale Shot, Breaking Swipe, and Dragon Cheer.
Dragonite is a great Pokémon in online battles, it has placed in the top 10 throughout the rankings, its most notable set is Extreme Speed with the Normal Tera Type, Dragonite has the highest Attack stat out of any Pokémon that can learn Extreme Speed, higher than Lucario, Arcanine, Entei, and even Arceus. Dragonite can use Dragon Dance to boost its Attack and Speed, Terastallize to a Normal Tera Type, and use Extreme Speed to sweep. Dragonite's other moves can include Outrage, Earthquake, Fire Punch, Roost, and many others, it can even go with Scale Shot with the Loaded Dice. Other Tera Type options are Steel to power up Iron Head, I have seen Fairy Tera Dragonite with a defensive set that uses moves like Fire Spin, Roost, and Encore, it can go with Flying for Tera Blast, as they didn't even give it Dual Wingbeat, possibly to balance it out a bit.
Dragonite has even seen use in Double Battles, it is one of the higher ranked Pokémon in that as well, and it has moves like Extreme Speed, Stomping Tantrum, Ice Spinner, Iron Head, and a few others, and Normal is the Tera Type used for Extreme Speed, but it can go with Steel or Flying to pair with Tera Blast. Dragonite can even well with Dragon Cheer users like Iron Jugulis, Lapras, Salazzle, and Sceptile, Dragon Cheer increases the critical hit rate of allies, the effect is greater if the ally is a Dragon-type Pokémon.
Dragonite has a rough start when going through the game, as Dratini doesn't evolve till Level 30, and most of the moves learned through TM can't be learned until it is fully evolved, Dragon Breath does at least give it a Dragon-type move to work with until then, unless you can hold off its evolution to Dragonair till Level 55 to pick up Outrage, but for some reason, Dragonite learns it at Level 41, making it not worth keeping it as a Dratini for that long, but there is Dragon Rush, but the downside is working with its low accuracy.
In Tera Raid Battles, Dragonite has competition with many other Dragon-types, this is because its boosting move is Dragon Dance, while most others like Garchomp can learn Swords Dance. Dragonite can go with a Flying Tera Type with Tera Blast if you want to use it as a Flying-type, and it will require support to maximize its Attack and Speed with Dragon Dance, and it can use Chilling Water or Breaking Swipe to weaken the stats of the opponent, and when Terastallized, it can go with a Flying-type Tera Blast to deal massive damage. I wouldn't say that it is the best at Tera Raid Battles, Dragonite is more of a Pokémon that works best in online battles.
