I'm playing the 1995 SNES/Super Nintendo fighting game Primal Rage. Like Mortal Kombat 3 from the same year it's a bloody and very violent fighter with similar and slightly worse graphics/sprites - instead of humans and humanoid monsters you'll fight as beast and dinosaur monster gods in this game - it has gods like Sauron, Diablo, Vertigo, Chaos and Talon - all of them worshipped by savage tribes of humans in the background, and all of them taking the form of King Kong-like giant apes, monsters and dinosaurs.

So in this video I'll be playing through the Arcade Mode as three characters - Talon - the Velociraptor-like god, Diablo - the T-REX with fire projectiles much like a dragon or Diablo himself and Sauron - the other T-REX with a focus on physical attacks rather than long-range fire blasts.

The game is clearly inspired by Mortal Kombat as it is a very similar game, just with monsters instead of humanoids - I do remember playing this at a friends place a few times as a kid back in the late 90's. Unlike Mortal Kombat 3 this game has 10 different difficulty levels - and unlike in the other game level 1 difficulty is actually pretty easy and maybe even too easy against most opponents - except the Cobra-Dinosaur monster named Vertigo which is the only real challenge on easy difficulty. I did actually enjoy this fighting-game because it's not too difficult unlike Mortal Kombat 3 - in MK3 I could hardly beat an opponent on "Very easy" but in this game I had a fun time. The monster Vertigo was difficult but not impossible to beat.

I would rank Diablo as the best and most powerful character due to his fire beams - when comparing the three characters that I do play here, Talon the Raptor is also really fun to use - while Sauron was actually difficult to use compared to the others - but still fun against everyone but Vertigo.

I used to LOVE dinosaurs as a kid and that's the only reason why I loved this game whenever I got to play it at my friends place. The raptor and the T-REX monsters have moves very similar to the moves of the dinosaurs of the first two Jurassic Park movies, but Diablo felt more like a dragon than a T-REX - Sauron is the one more close to an actual T-REX in this game. Talon as the Raptor is very much just a raptor unlike the others who can all fire projectiles.

This fighting-game is the better game for a beginner and was actually fun against the AI unlike MK3 which was fun against my sister back when I was a kid but was far too difficult against the AI.

This game is recommended for people who like retro fighting-games, monsters and dinosaurs. I'm surprised nobody has made a modern version of Primal Rage as it certainly was popular back in the 90's - Mortal Kombat has gotten many games, the last of which released as late as 2020 I think.

I doubt that Primal Rage has gotten another game and I enjoyed it more than MK3 against the AI.
