Absolute smash arcade classic with a very respectable Colecovision port. Strange that this port starts out without a title screen-- it goes right to the skill setting screen instead (1-6, with the first 3 repeated for 2 player alternating play). But the general feel of the arcade original is perfectly captured here, though without the alien swear language for when Q*Bert collides with an enemy. Hop on the spaces of a pyramid to change their color to the requisite color, as indicated by the "Change To" note on the left. Colored balls fall onto the playfield and bounce about, most of which are deadly save the green one (which stops the enemies for a short while), and the purple one will change into a snake that pursues you. You can lead the snake off the pyramid by jumping onto a colored disc that brings you back to the top and sends the snake jumping off the pyramid to his death-- you can accidentally jump off yourself if you're not familiar with the controls, which are not like the arcade. The other 2 enemies are Ugg and Wrong Way with weird movement patterns, but a little green guy may also be considered an enemy since he undoes all your hard work-- changing the color of steps he jumps on! Collect him or jump on a disc to stop his blemish on your handiwork. Later levels (each of which has 4 rounds) will require you to step multiple times to change to the right color, and you yourself can accidentally undo your work! After completing 5 levels the game speeds up significantly! Absolute classic well-ported to the Colecovision. Stay safe everyone!
