For 1982 this was a very impressive port of the arcade classic. Especially when you compare it to the rotten Atari 2600 and Intellivision ports. This was also the Colecovision pack-in title, so it's the earliest CV game. It's not a perfect port by any means, as it has glitches involving jumping onto platforms and (perhaps most important) climbing ladders-- you must press up at the base of a ladder to start your climb, stop and then press and hold up again to climb! If you simply press up you climb WAY too slow! Who effed this up?? Anyway.. those complaints aside, the graphics are a knockout! It looks very much like the arcade original (especially Mario/Jumpman!) and the sound effects, which aren't all arcade-perfect, fit well within the game. Lesser complaints include less rivets on the rivet stage (6 compared to 8 in the arcade), DK is on the wrong side on the girder/barrel level (and there are less girders), there are no jackhammers/springs whatever the hell they're supposed to be on the elevator level, and there is no Pie Factory level (present in the Coleco ADAM port). All complaints aside, for 1982 this was pretty darn good! Stay safe everybody, and as Buckner & Garcia once said: DO THE DONKEY KONG!!!
