Yup, this is it-- the close of my 20 From The Intellivsion series, featuring my choice for the best game of the system-- Burgertime! You know, I don't really see how too many people can argue this pick.. it was a phenomenal port, with the music very faithfully captured and the sound effects very well done. The action and graphics were also well crafted, and the general gameplay is very faithful. For those who lived in a cave all their life, BURGERTIME features the cook Peter Pepper (that's you in this game) trying to create 4 whole burgers with both buns, lettuce, tomato and burger among the ingredients. To build the burgers you walk over the ingredients to drop them down to lower floors. Sentient food enemies attempt to catch you, and they are Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Egg, and Mr. Pickle. Contact with any costs you a life, but you are armed with (limited) peppers which cause the enemies to sneeze for a short while. After a certain amount of ingredients are dropped bonus items appear (fries, coffee, ice cream cone, ketchup) that give you an extra pepper. Enemies can be squished by falling ingredients or you can drop an ingredient when an enemy is walking on it (nearly catching you); the latter strategy will drop the ingredient TWO stories instead of just one. The more enemies on the ingredient in the latter strategy, the greater the bonus (up to 8,000). Try to conserve your peppers for the later stages-- there will be long stretches of areas without ladders, which make it easy for enemies to trap you! Note that the enemies have very recognizable patters. They LOVE going up or down ladders and almost always use them to reach you.. and you can "fake" an enemy out to get them to take a different ladder or path simply by moving in a different direction. Remember: they cannot backtrack (unless they run into a dead end). Great port of the Data East arcade original. Stay tuned for my upcoming series involving the mighty Colecovision! Hope you had a great weekend and stay safe, everybody! Thanks for watching the Intellivision series!
